So I've got my one buddy who's a mechanical engineer for this years secret santa, and I've been eyeing up a piece of gallium for him. You know, that metal that melts in your hand or whatever (he's into that neat/nerdy stuff...and truth be told I want to check it out too lol)
Anybody know where I can get some locally without going online? Google tells me its non toxic (unlike mercury), but are there any safety concerns as well?
I guess another question would be what other neat gifts could you think of for someone like that? He got those magnetic bucky balls last year and damn near pissed himself with happiness, so you can see a small trend here.

They're on sale at ThinkGeek atm

not really hands-on, but quite interesting in the magnetic field.

Gallium spoons for a pratical joke.
