Looking for a good machine shop in or around Calgary to polish the journals on my crankshaft. Having said that, is there anybody have bad experience at a machine shop let me know (and why) so I can stay away from them. Any help is appreciated.

Try Manfreds industrial, they are right by Standens.

No, it's my friends Dads shop. Manfred came here from Germany in about 81 and worked at Humfreys for a while before going on his own. That's all I know about the shop.

Have personally used these guys for engine block (bore/hone, resurface) and cylinder head work (clean and resurface) as well as flywheel resurfacing.

Precise Engine, bar none. All they build all day are race engines. I've had a few engines worth of machine work done by them, all engines have seen close to 30psi of boost with ZERO issues.

+3 for Precise. I had a bottom end for my honda done there and never had a single problem with it (boosted w/ 9lbs. for the past 3 years).

Precise. Had work done there several times. Decent pricing, never had a problem.
I get them to do just the machining and I double check clearances when putting together. Always in spec.
They have pnp'd one of my heads too. Great job.

They've also done about 3 blocks for me. This one was align honed and had the jugs honed.

Nothing but good things to say about Precise. Used to work with Chris. Him and his dad pay very close attention to their work.

I think Precise brings their stuff to Aztec Machine Works? (I use Aztec, good service, never had any problems with them)

They do it all in house. I've toured the shop while they worked on my engine.

Aztec do some general machine work for Precise iirc, but all engine machining (honing, boring, crank grinding, surfacing, balancing, etc) is done in house at precise. Another thumbs up from me

Just not those guys off edmonton trail. Jfw or dfk or whatever. You know, the cash only guys that always change their name.
