i notice there is a few threads around already, especially about how sony camera sucks. but Im just wondering what do you guys think about the Sony DSC-V1. ( my sis just lost our camera so im Kindaaaa in the market for another one)

i read alot of great reviews on that camera, but i personally dont know much about camera at all, but being inspired by all the pictures posted by you guys, i figuredi would get something a little higher end than the S300 we had.

So anyway. Any take on the Sony V1? ( or G5?, slightly.. well alot more expensive)

G5 will decimate pretty much any camera in the <$1000 range

If I were you I'd buy a Canon S400, S50, G5 or A80.

I'm not onna get into a huge message of why I hate Sony, so I'm just gonna say Buy Canon/Nikon/Olympus/

as important as the lens is ( I think the sony you are talking about has a Carl Zeiss lens ), the sensor is also important.

I love my Canons. I still have my Sony, but it is collecting dust.

Personally, for a point and shoot, I would get an S400 or even a G4... do you really need 5MP?

so, what do u want out of the camera? u cant expect recommendations if we dont know what u want.

I have an S400. I chose that over the A70 (don't think the A80 was out yet) because of the size and shape. The A70-80 doesn't really fit in your pocket.

Also, you can't really compare the two. The A series is the entry level series and the S is the next model up. Kinda like comparing the 3 series to the 5 series BMW.

The one nice thing about the A70-A80 is the manual functions. I didn't need them because I have a 300D. If you want manual and a good camera, look at the G series or the S45-S50 cameras.

Yeah, I think Sony has rested on it laurels for a while. Our old Sony shit is way better quality that the new stuff we have.

well, yes and no. There is no doubt that they make good shit. My opinion is that they have let the competition catch up.

Samsung currently (or at least the last time I checked which was 3 months ago) had the best projection TV... the one with DLP.

The WEGA XBR is no doubt the best CRT on the market, but it is now 2 years old with no replacement. But this is totally off topic.

ok, I'm not trying to jack the thread, but all the camera guru's seem to be answering this one. My mom is looking at getting a Canon EOS Digital Rebel, any thoughts on this camera, good/bad, and where can she get a good price and good service

Stick with a brand name.
It will cost more, but they have refined products.
Like everyone is saying go with cannon.

That is a great camera, and the price should be dropping now that the 8MPixle cameras are hitting the market.

I like my Pentax Optio S4. I bought it for the size and it's so small that it fits in an altoids can and it still a 4.0 with pretty good zoom. I needed a small size because I can carry it in my purse and take it everywhere. For photo colors (not sure if I'm explaining it right) I've found that my brother's cheapo Christmas present Canon A10 (I believe that's the model that it is) has better colors than any other camera that I've seen whether it be a better version of the Canon or Sony.
And yes, I'm aware that there are settings on the camera to change it as well as color balance/levels etc on photo editing programs to change it but I've found that the pictures show up really nice on the cheapo cam.
