So I am looking for a new laptop.

The wife is trying to convince me to get a mac book pro... I never owned a Mac.

All I will be using it for is the internet, videos/movies, pdfs, and maybe the odd game.

I had a Lenovo gaming laptop and it was kind of a lemon with video card and overheating issues. Also the screen was flimsy and my 2 year old son broke the hinges on it...

I am looking at spending $1400 max.

Any suggestions?

I have a Lenovo t400 that is 3 years old and stills runs like brand new. It's definitely the best laptop I've ever had, and I would recommend them (I think they are the t430 now) to anyone. I think their other models are not built to the same quality standards, however. I know my brother bought one of their cheaper think pads and had to send it back because it stopped working within the first year.

My ThinkPad T400 is still going after 3 years. I ordered a new battery for it off eBay for $20, just so I'm not tied to a power outlet every time I want to use it.

Other than that, yeah, it seems slower than the faster computers of today, but 8GB of RAM ($40) and an SSD have brought it pretty darn close.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I always had Toshiba laptops and they were always good to me.

How is Samsung?

Anyone else?
