I want a frameless glass shower door for a reno I'm doing. A few American forums people said to use a glass shop versus a plumbing/bathroom shop.

I dont have a ton of money to spend but I do want frameless, at least 10mm, quality glass and hinges. I dont want it screwed into the curb. The hinges/brackets on the wall should be the only thing holding the glass up.

I'm guessing it should be $1000-$1500 range. Total glass coverage approx 4' x 8'.

ny recommendations?

There's also Simple Spaces. If you're looking at 10mm, you're probably looking at $2000 +/- a couple hundred depending on the how simple/complex it is. With 10mm tempered glass shower systems, it's not necessarily about glass coverage. It also depends on how many panels/sections of glass as that affects the hardware and how they cut the glass and polish the edges.

If you want to save some money and still go frameless, you can opt for 6mm glass. It might come in closer to your budget.

Do you need just the door, or do you need a whole shower enclosure?
Just a 10mm clear door with hardware could be done for the $1000 to $1500 range. What color hardware do you want?
If you need a door and a sidelight, your going to be looking in the $2000+ range. The doors I used to do screwed into the wall with 2 hinges, nothing into the curb. Is 8' the full height? Do you need a full height door? If you don't need one and think a shorter door would be fine and create the look you want, then you could always go to a shorter door.
I'm not sure what current order times are, but your looking at likely 2-4 weeks.

Dont need full 8' unless I decide on doing a steam shower - haven't decided. It's not a full enclosure just a door and peice beside the door about 18" wide. I'm not tapped out at $1500 I just dont want to spend more.

With large pieces typically used frameless you can't usually get away with 6mm.

It simply doesn't have the strength of 10mm for its surface area. you can end up with really bowed pieces.

All tempered glass is already slightly bowed, (from the tempering process) in 6mm that bow can become very pronounced when a large surface area sheet is left freestanding like that.
