Fairmont is pretty nice... probably cost a fortune though

Had ours at Rafter Six Ranch. It was awesome! They have a nice little log chapel and bride gets to pull up in a horse drawn carriage. Prices are more than reasonable too. This was '05 though so things might've changed since then.

[edit] Oops reading > me. I just noticed reception. I had my CEREMONY at the above mentioned place. Nothing beats a reception at a good Chinese restaurant, shark fins et al! :D

We had about 80 people and had it at Q Haute Cuisne.

We had ours at the Highwood @ SAIT. It is a really nice venue for the price we paid. It can hold 100 people as ours was around that amount and there was still room to be had. The food was fantastic, but they only do a buffet I believe so if you are looking for a sitdown served meal look elsewhere.

We had ours at the Cottonwood golf course kinda outta the way but was a very good price something like 28 a person for prime rib, that was back in 2010. It can definitely accommodate 100 ppl. In the summer it looks awesome we found lots of green and the area is away from the clubhouse so you don't get any unwelcome golfers showing up.

Heritage park has about six different venues within it. We used the Canmore Opera house (at heritage park) and it was excellent.

The shriners hall in bowness is pretty good, but only for larger groups.
Most golf courses can do a good job.
the Lougheed House is nice, although 100 may not fit.

Had ours at the Winter Club. Prices were good, skyline view. If you have it in the summer, the patio is awesome (looks over the city). Right on nosehill park for pics.

All depends on price. We are planning ours as well, and the top 3 venues we are looking into are Hotel Arts, Le Germain and Silvertip Resort in Canmore.

Hotel Arts is one if not THE cheapest inner city hotel...

Is this good or bad? The reviews and photos have all looked great so far.

Thats an odd question.

Is it a good thing that Hotel Arts charges you less then the Sheraton, Hyatt, Palliser, Westin etc for the same service? and still gives you a comparable location/quality of food etc.?

Id say yes.

It was also cheaper or in the same ballpark as some nicer places down south as well. (Deerfoot Inn and Casino)

Does it have to be right IN Calgary?

We got married at Silvertip Golf Resort in Canmore, and it made for amazing pictures. Nakoda on the Lake was actually our first choice but it was booked... but it is also super nice with... well... a lake.

My wife and I had our wedding this past July at the Palliser, everything was stellar. It was between there and Hotel Arts for us as we needed to accommodate close to 400 guests. As R-Audi mentioned, the Hotel Arts offers a lot for the money. As you need to accommodate ~100 guests, you have a lot of options; I'd go with a smaller, unique place. And congratulations, all the happiness to you and yours!

congrats from the gov.

been engaged for a few months now also. one venue to check out, would be the city hall in Cochrane. kinda has a vintage wild west feel but very nice, an if memory serves correct it can accommodate 150 people..

You could have implied that they nickle and dime you on everything, or what you wrote in your reply which is what I thought you were alluding to.

thanks for all the replies and the congrats guys!
as for budget we're trying to get as nice a place possible for the best price possible. we dont have a firm budget number yet but the less the better as we will probably be paying for the wedding ourselves

We had ours at the Strathcona Community Center, it was a super nice venue. One of the nicest community center out there. We picked it because you can bring the booze in. You have the entire building, hardwood floors in the main room. other nice room is where we had the buffet and the candy bar. Off of that room is a balcony with an entire view of downtown. There is also a loft where you can do the wedding if you dont want to do a church wedding. We had a 120 guest and a dance floor and it was great.

Azuridge Hotel looks great. I had a birthday lunch there and took a limo out, was fun. Could only imagine how great a wedding would be there.

UPDATE:

Hey guys! we now have a date (Aug 17) and the church is booked! next up is finding the reception/dinner/party venue. numbers are still the same, right around 100

As for budget we want to stay below 20k for the entire wedding experience.

Thanks!

It sucks how we lack outdoor wedding venues. :(
There's a few that are VERY expensive and can't have too many guests there anyway:(

We booked the Rotary House on the Stampede grounds a few months back, perfect venue for us, very little decor needed, cant wait!
