Hey guys, in all the home reno threads I have been through I cannot remember finding a 'beyond resident plumber' but I am hoping this thread might find one (or at least a knowledgeable DIY'r).

I am working on developing my basement and have everything complete except the bathroom. As far as I knew the basement was roughed in and ready to go... until last night. After taking a closer look, I found that the plumbing for the toilet and sink are there but the shower is what confuses me. In the floor there is a 4" white ABS tube sticking out right around where a shower drain should go. When I bought the house it looked like someone had dumped some dirt down it so I just figured that I was just going to have to clean it out. Yesterday I brought the vacuum down and sucked up the dirt and was surprised to find that there was no plumbing down there, it appears to just be a piece of tube through the concrete and down into the 3/4 crush under the house.

Does anyone know why they would run this tube but no actual plumbing? Is this a common thing? From what google told me they sometimes run this 4" sleeve with a 1.5" or 2" pipe inside of it to allow room for the flange on the shower but I can't find any evidence of that (unless it is really buried). Should I try dig deeper?

Any information is appreciated

So the guy has to jackhammer his floor out to find it? Why wouldn't they just have run one when they plumbed the house?
