View Full Version : The Hella Flush Trend

It is funny how this trend took off when 10 years ago people were making fun of the same stance (was called "mexi-ride" back in the day)

Haha "self clearance axles" hahahaha. Too funny. Some guys just take it too damn far. I have a fairly flush appearance on my s14 and im totally happy with its height. I can clear speed bumps for the most part...hah.

wow lol a lot of hate in that thread

im not much into the super modding of things and in all honesty dont know a whole lot but thats crazy to see the damage caused by that i imagine it would be far worse with the kind of roads that we have here in calgary.

but i will add it looks good when its sitting there all pretty in a parking lot or on a instagram picture lol

They guy will end up paying more now because he chose to take shortcuts instead of taking his time and doing it right

I can see why somebody wants to do this but you have to accept the fact that there is only so far you can go before you end up like the car in the article. I changed my tire size by like 1% and for about two weeks I would walk around the car and check each tire for rubbing because I'm so paranoid, I dunno how this guy drove around with the sound of his entire car grinding off on to the pavement and didn't think to check if everything was okay.

This is a "new" thing? People have been stretching tires for years.

Next up, an article about the new "fast and furious" trend

Next up, an article about the new "fast and furious" trend its more than just stretching, its moddings suspension to lower a car to stupid levels. if you scrape sub frame its too damn low imo. for a daily driver anyways

Damn, that car is fucked. I don't know about other cars, but the S Chassis has a lot of aftermarket support to correct suspension geometry and still remain slammed. How do you think Formula D drivers drift with slammed cars and still be functional?

Here's a write up from Zilvia explaining some products that help correct suspension geometry.
http://zilvia.net/f/tech-talk/296725-roll-center-suspension-pickup-steering-angle-modification-thread.html

You can always have a custom down pipe and exhaust to hug the frame more tightly to avoid scraping. Raising the sub frame, having modified knuckles, and having adjustable arms can correct the negative points stated by MotoIQ. Stretching tires isn't too bad if you purchase tires that can stretch with the correct sidewalls. Most people that have tires debead on them don't correctly inflate the tire or have a brand of tire that doesn't stretch well. Everything i stated above requires more money/labour and or custom parts but allows you to ride super low safely.

To have crazy wheel fitment, it's usually a good idea to go widebody and get tubs for more wheel movement. Your tires are less likely to rub on things. Lots of negative camber also allows your car to drop lower. To deal with camber wear, you can flip the tires before they completely wear on one side. You can also buy Nitto NeoGens which are meant for negative camber with their inner tire design.
http://www.nittotire.com/Tire/neogen#tech

With all that being said, if you just lower your car with coils and don't correct anything, your suspension will eventually break/increased wear. I personally like the "HellaFlush" trend but only the cars with nice parts that don't cheap out on anything.

The catback I bought from you was well on its way to looking like that downpipe :P

This article is saying its a recent thing. Its not. I remember a local guy stretching 205's on 9.5" wheels on a widebody slammed s13 in 2006.

Not defending this trend btw. I have always thought it was dumb.

My phone corrects to "retarted" for some reason instead of "retarded."

My car is lowered on a race suspension setup. For handling performance, not looks. I don't have stretched tires or crazy camber (in fact I did everything in my power to keep the camber within factory limits.)

My original comment wasn't meant to be taken so seriously guys.

No harm intended, I know what kind of power that thing makes.

I don't necessarily like stance'd cars. I think there should be a balance between performance and looks, but depending on the purpose of the car.

I remember back 7 years ago when my car (Integra) was lowered 2" with Tokico Illuminas and Eibach Sportlines, everyone in the forum was trolling that it needs to go lower with little or no gap on the wheel well.

I can only imagine the amount of pressure these new cool kids with their cool cars.

Everyone definitely has their own preference. I love low cars with wheels that don't fit, I think bags are for cheaters, and no, I don't care that your car will run a 10.862 on the quarter mile. I used to be all about performance, function over form. I guess I just gave up on it, especially after the track disappeared. Someone will always be faster, which for someone who's a sore loser is tough to deal with lol.

Anyway, anyone who wants to check out a largely hate free environment for 'stanced' cars should check out the stanceworks forums. By far the best online community I've ever been a part of.

I think it looks decent within reason. Some people take it just a wee bit to far.
Yeah it may "look cool" having a 225 tyre on a 10" rim with -6 degree camber.. but what practicality does it have in this city besides looks?

The car would handle like garbage on a race track.
But everyone has their own tastes is what looks good and what don't.
I prefer function>form any day.

which is why i dont really have an issue with it for a street car. the biggest safety concern is getting a flat tire... oh noes... or taking out your oil pan. little less of a problem them some fool on r-compounds doing 200km/h+ around a bend and hitting a patch of water/gravel/ice

It's a fascinating example of sub-culture group think leading to hilarity.

You see it in other ways. Off the top of my head:

- giant donut ear-rings to create huge ear holes (the bigger the better!)
- dumb looking tattoos.
- ricers
- cosplay/LARP
- college fraternities
- Bieber hair

I could go on.

Basically, it's human tribal instinct, and the need to below to a "club". It's irrelevant to the members that everyone else laughs at it. Acceptance within the sub-culture is tantamount, and the 10,000 other people laughing at a rim sticking out from a tire (because really...no way is that cool), are thought to just not "get it".

Now go put a proper size tyre on that 10" rim, say a 255-275 and get back to me on what handles better. (time attack/road course not drift)
The problem isn't really having a 225 on a 10" It's the ridiculous amount of camber. why not step down to a 9" If you wanna run a 225? run half the camber and actually have most of the tyre on the ground versus a inch or two :dunno:

I completely agree on the second part.

18x10.5+25 235/35

But falkens run thinner than almost all. I wish they didnt stretch as much as they did. I know urbanX had a hard time mounting the rears but they got them done

I think the stanced cars in this thread look goofy as hell. I sure hope that the owners don't give a shit what I think. If they do, that's pretty sad. Then again, strictly aesthetic mods are actually intended for the consumption by the public. So the desire for public acceptance is implied in their very existence. At some level, people laughing at the cars is not satisfying that inner urge to impress.

With cars has it not always been do what you like? People are always telling me lower the shit out of my car but I dont really want to be replacing lips every year, or the undertray/engine cover for that matter. So I leave it stock ride height for now. I think the people that slam these cars are aware that they can put it back the way it was or change it so who cares..? If thats what they like that whats the like. Its not a debate about right or a wrong.

Your right to do what you want isn't mutually exclusive from my right to make fun of it.
