How does it work if somebody else has to drive your car? Is it covered by insurance? And whos policy would cover an accident?

Good Q for the insurance company, I know, but I might have to split some driving duties tmw and I've always been curious about this situation

Your insurance will cover it and it'll be a claim on your file.

There are a lot of variables to this so obviously you're best path is to chat with your broker but as a general rule you can lend your vehicle to whomever you want as long as they have a valid driver's license. Keep in mind though that if your buddy / brother / stranger smashes up your car the claim will count against you & your record for up to 10 years. Because of this I don't lend my vehicle to anyone and I don't borrow anyone's vehicle.

I always say, never drive another man's motorcycle, car or wife unless you're willing to write a cheque for it on the spot.

MB's right as usual, insurance follows the vehicle, not the person. Your friend writes off your car, it's your policy that will respond.
