Seeing as how we're all getting older, and a large amount of us have children. How about a subforum for Family/Kid related stuff?

kvg

We have a buy/sell/trade for kids already don't we ;) . Sounds like a good idea for the typical my way is the best ever and your a terrible parent discussions that always ends up happening. I'm down because good or bad it will sure be entertaining.

Or the "help my kids shit is green is that normal??" type threads lol

ExtraSlow
01-07-2013, 08:25 AM
I made this exact suggestion about a year an a half ago, but I just laughed at. I still think this is a good idea, and it'll help those without kids to avoid this type of threads.

As long as Brad gets a chance to tell us how he's already chosen a career path for all his offspring, it'll be good for the luls. Also enjoy the childless members telling us what bad parents we are.

All in all, will be more entertaining than edicational, but that's true for the rest of this forum as well. I'm in.

How about a picture thread where everyone posts pictures of their kids doing the same fad photo shoots (i.e. smash rainbow cake).

When I first joined Beyond years ago I don't think this would have worked. Yes, we still have the "green" young guys on here but some of us have stuck on Beyond for some time and our families are starting to grow.

Now that I have a baby, I'd certainly welcome such an area. I don't like posting questions/comments on the general forums since I figure such matters are of interest to only a select group on this site.

You're a terrible parent for letting them on the internet with their ipads. I bet you give them soda as well.

If a child-forum (pun intended) is made though, you shouldn't let 89coupe in, otherwise you know how every thread will turn out, lol.

^^^ I think that is the entire point of asking for a subforum, Sputnik is right noboby here would ever visit it. There are lots of parenting sites aready. A lot of us have kids and just want to post the odd question here and there or get some feedback on something from other parents.

We have a "fitness" subforum, a "sports" subforum, an "entertainment" subforum... the most active parts of this board are non-car related.

Would not visit a separate website, google works fine for that to read other people's threads but I would never post there.

Most of those other sites are dominated by moms and I think most of the people that would use it on Beyond are dads - very different demographic.

Plus, those forums are largely American and a lot of the health/medical stuff doesn't apply to us because we get what the government gives us, that and we simply aren't American.

I find that on a lot of very important issues, Canadians handle things very differently.

A lot of you are commenting that you don't want to visit other parenting forums because they're filled with "women with burning torches and bitchforks" and women from "commiefornia who's still breastfeeding her 6yo". You like beyond because it's dominated by regular joe type males.

keep in mind, though, that a parenting subforum here will attract those people to become members here, and those new people will have the ability to post in any of the other forum subsections. Imagine Kritafo x 32498723498732984723. It would really change the demographics around here, which (based on the comments above) seem to be really important to you all.

Which is why I suggested making it invisible to non-members, just like Ask Leo... :dunno:

That's one of the things we're considering. I just thought a new forum with an easy integration for beyond members would be nice. It'll also allow us to test new forum software for the day when we finally upgrade this place lol.

Biggest difference (having browsed a few of them as my wife spends some time on them) is there are more than 2 men on beyond.

Plus, we also don't coddle the shit out of each other. I don't think many of them would survive here for long.

Damn, looks like I'm going to have to grow a penis. Only took 11 years of being on here to be told I'm not allowed, thanks guys :D :burnout:

For the record, I am a member on one of those burning torches and bitchfork forums, and just about every time I post on there I mention to abyss how much I wish beyond had a parenting section. I dont know that I'd post for advice overly much, but it would be so refreshing to not read in EVERY response how sugar is child abuse, breastfeeding is the ONLY way to feed your child and that everyone's little kid is a precious snowflake who can do no wrong. Ever.

Signed,

A mom who believes a well deserved spanking is essential to a child's growth.
