What are some of the best things to get with rewards points ? I have 15000 of them. Seems like I can get $125 best buy card but that seeks kinda weak for 30 grand spent

I get 1 point for every dollar spent, I always buy the $100 Esso cards for 12000 points.

I get all mine automatically transfered over to AirMiles

If you look, all the "rewards" should be 12000 pts = $100 worth.
Anything that is less than that is not worth it.

They have decent travel options, I've also cashed some points out before in $500 increments..

I've got around 160,000 which if used for flights or Vaction packages is worth $1600. Almost a Vegas trip for the family!

I have two Avion cards. One for my biz, the other, personal. They both go towards the same rewards total. But it's all a gimmick. I pay a higher percentage rate. I could get a lower rate but then lower rewards. Meh. Feels good. A free vacation every couple years.

If you fly British Airways, convert them to BA points they had 50% deposit bonus, not sure if it ended or not, but I converted 90k of them and got 135k BA points. Still have like 300k of them, I have never used them for anything until I did the BA transfer haha.

Convert the points to esso points and use them for car washes :). Probably the best bang for your buck

I must be getting screwed then... Only 1 point for 2 dollars spent.

FYI, a business class on cathay pacific is 120K BA points, economy is 60K BA points so with the 50% bonus conversion, it's effectively $80K and $40K spend. A business class flight is about $5000 and the economy is about $1500 so the effective return rate on these estimates are approximately 6.25% and 3.75%.

The only downside to all of this is that flights are VERY restricted. But if you can take advantage, then it's the best for your earned dollars spent.

Car washes at Esso are so expensive. If you change your rewards to Esso points, it's ratio of 1.6667. So it's 300 Reward points = 1 basic esso wash.

15000 pts = 50 basic esso washes.

Huh???? :nut:

Air travel rewards: $500.00 = 50,000 points
Esso card rewards: $500.00 = 60,000 points
And "Avion" card holders:

15,000 points = up to $350.00 flight
(Short-haul: Canada/United States Within or to an adjacent Province/Territory/U.S. State)

I've got Avion and I used around 40,000 points for a flight to Vegas early last year. I am ready for almost another flight now. I use the card even for a $2 thing, might as well get the points if I am spending the money.

AVION is the shit, I use it for everything! In the last six years I've flown to Asia, two trips to Vancouver, one to Calgary, one to Winnipeg, Vegas and Waikiki.

Got 128,000 points again now, just waiting till I have the cash for the rest of the trip for something awesome again!

Yeah, Avian is 120 or 150 a year? Worth the tradeoff imo!

Avion's 150, all you have to do is spend 6-7k a year and you've covered that. Plus my fee gets waived for group banking :D

Edit: that should have read $120, not $150...

What's avion give you ? I spend like 10k at least a year so maybe it's worth it

I don't understand this. Group banking = $150 waived?
Where on RBC's site does it say this? All of RBC's Avion cards are $120 annual fee.

1 dollar = 1 point.

$1 = 1 point.

Yearly fee is $120 which for me personally is waived cause of my premium banking account with RBC. Even for the fee though it's worth it.

I gas up at Esso and have tons of Esso points, which if you have an Avion can be transfered on to it as well. 1 esso point = 1/2 Avion point I think.

I never used to do this until last year or so, but everytime I spend money, I make sure I use my Avion. The points rack up at a decent speed. I canceled my Scotiabank Visa and American Express that gave me Aeroplan miles after I got this card.

I read somewhere for points and everything, Avion is the best card out there after this CapitalOne Mastercard, which in addition to everything what Avion does, gives you access to premium section at various airports.

Yeah that was a typo on my part. I'm not sure the specifics as I went in there and switched everything up when I started at this job, but between the group banking benefits and switching to the signature no limit account, my fee got waived.

I use the avion for everything domestic, but have the amazon card for foreign purchases (1% cash back/2% at amazon.ca, no foreign translation fees)

Avion is best if you use your points toward travel.
Two years ago, i converted around 120k points toward Britishairways point and got 50% bonus BA points.
Luckily, BA had a promotion of 50% discount on points flights.
Overall, i did 6-7 grand of travelling under $1200:thumbsup:

i have enough avion points for a europe trip. probably cash in next year.

I haven't paid an avion fee yet. If you have the signature no limit i don't think you pay.

I collect tons of aeroplan points through sign up bonuses or promos. last year, i collected almost 100,000 aeroplan points.

wife and I just booked a flight to Thailand, Greece and France. All in business class. Cost me 125,000 aeroplan points (which were almost all from sign up bonuses or aeroplan promos), plus taxes (fuel surcharge, airport taxes, etc) per person.

LOL. Amateurs. Don't use your RBC reward points on Vegas tickets. You're getting a worse return than just converting them to cash (100 points to $1).

It costs 35K points to fly anywhere in the states, Vegas or not, and you get a maximum ticket price of $750 before taxes (2.1% return if you use full ticket allowance). Round trip flights to vegas are roughly $250-$300 (plus taxes). If you use reward points your return is 0.007%, less than the cash conversion percentage.

When I booked my Vegas flight, it was over $750. I had to pay around $80 on top of my 40K or so points.

What about the PC MasterCard. I heard their points system works out better than the Avion. Espcially if you buy groceries and gas up at their stores (you get double points for that). You also get $0.07 superbucks if you gas up with your PC M/C instead of any other card (you get only $0.035 with a different card)

I believe this conversion still stands.

If you convert you RBC points to ESSO points, then purchase ESSO gift card with it. You get more money than if you straight up convert from RBC points to gift cards.

300 rbc points = 500 esso points

3000 rbc points = $25 esso gift card = 5000 esso points
5000 esso points = $30 esso gas credit
