I just discovered http://openflights.org/ and think it's a wicked tool for tracking your flights / holidays. Maybe others will find it as cool as I do.

I just spent the last couple days updating mine off of old travel itineraries from the last 5 years I had filed in my e-mails and got some neat stats like I've flown around the world equivalent to over 19 times, have almost flown to the moon and back, and have spent over 44 days in the air! Crazy.

It looks like you can export to Google Maps 3D too....I can't wait to play with that.

Here's the output I got from mine:

My flight summary is nothing compared to other folks on that site. Granted, many of them are probably pilots and cabin crew who don't get much time to enjoy their destinations and spend a good part of their lives in the air. It is cool to see a graphic representation of the flights I've taken though. I just wish I had my itineraries going back further than 2006...

Many of my flights are work related so it's not all fun and games.

You've got some serious long-hauls on your map! Very cool.

Ah...yes, my only work related flights on my map are the Toronto and Montreal flights (5 days of work in Kingston, but I managed to squeeze in about 3 days of vacation in each of Toronto and Montreal before and after the work related trip to Kingston). Travel for business is tough! Nearly all of my work related travel is in Alberta (so I drive) and I find myself working much longer hours than usual (16+ hour days when on the road seem to be the norm...)

No work related travel that will involve air travel in the foreseeable future, so all the upcoming flights that I take will be vacation related :)

Surprising that with over 44 days in the air you haven't had a flight over 11 hours in duration.

Mine:
http://openflights.org/user/tch7
Airports 31
Carriers 17
Countries 15

Total flown 153095 km
Around the world 3.82x
To the Moon 0.398x
To Mars 0.0027x

Longest YVR-HKG, 10263 km, 13:15
Shortest YVR-YXX, 63 km, 00:34
Average 2392 km, 03:27

Northernmost YXY (60.71°N 135.07°W) (Whitehorse)
Southernmost CHC (43.49°S 172.53°E) (Christchurch)
Westernmost APW (13.83°S 172.01°W) (Samoa)
Easternmost NAN (17.76°S 177.44°E) (Fiji)

That was a good waste of a Friday night. Haven't had any flights for business, as all my work has been within BC/AB/SK so I always drive.

I usually like laying over in 'hubs' for a few days so even if there is a direct route, I'll often choose the stop-over. I love Singapore, Bangkok, Tokyo etc.

The cost in business class on those long hauls is often much more than if you were to do a couple flights with a stop-over as well....gotta stick within my corporate budget. :D
