Can anyone provide me the phone number for a good tow guy right away? I'm stuck on Anderson Rd eastbound just past Southcentre. Not sure what happened yet, but my drivers side rear wheel locked up. Right side still spins but I'm not going anywhere.

I used to use George at General Lee Towing but the number I had for him is out of service.

I don't need a flatbed but the rear wheels have to be lifted. I expect the tow truck to take forever. I just want to call to get one booked. My ass end is right on the yellow line. With guys whipping by at 80kmh only inches from my truck I would like to get it removed from the road.

Thanks G-Zus. I got threw to Abbey towing but he's leaving for Vancouver in 45 mins. Any other numbers?

Kinda hope not. I have cash for a tow, but I don't want to pay impound fees.

Yeah, they'll tow it to where you ask them to take it. The list of Beyond recovery volunteers above is good for getting pulled out of snowdrifts, but if you've got mechanical damage that is keeping your vehicle from rolling you will need a legit tow truck.

Yeah I would happily pull you out but if the wheel is locked up there's not much use.

Flat towing with a strap is illegal, nice fine to go with it. Like catsplat said, he needs a tow truck or someone with a trailer.

Call AMA maybe?

Did it lock up out of the blue or did you just leave a parking lot close by. Reason I ask is that it may just be your parking brake that seized up because of the cold. Regardless if you had no warning signs I see no reason you can't drive it up just a tad to get off the road, it may even unstick the PB if thats the issue.

Thanks Cronic and Boosted. I'm not "stuck" so pulling me out isn't needed.

Thank you to G-Zus, Abbey Towing said they can be their by 12:30. This also highlights why you should keep an emergency kit in the vehicle. I was on my way to a dentist appointment so I was just in regular shoes but had a warm coat and good gloves. Needless to say my toes got pretty cold.

I left my house and drove down Anderson and had for a few minutes. No sign of any issues until I hit traffic and was crawling along. When I was braking at slow speed it was making a wierd noise almost like ABS kicking in on ice, but it wasn't icy. I new something was wrong and planned to pull over byt couldn't with traffic. Then suddenly when I tried to go, the back end started to swing out so I just nosed it to the shoulder as far as I could. When I got out i saw the skid mark from the drivers wheel.

See obligatory pictures:

Could be a number of things (seized caliper, friction-welded wheel bearing, etc.). My bet would be caliper, but you won't know until you get the wheel off and start poking around.

I was considering taking the wheel off, but not with cars ripping by inches from the truck at 80-90kmh. The truck ended up in a kinda bad position for doing it on the side of the road. Otherwise I would have.

I would think your rear brakes are frozen, i had that issue one year in my beater. it had drum brakes in the rear, you can try and free them up by reversing and then slamming on the brakes back and forth trying to free them, or just let it sit inside for a couple hours.
:dunno:

Oh yeah, I was in no way suggesting you should tear into it on the side of the highway, haha. Way too dangerous.

Do you set your parking brake when you park for the night? I've seen things like this when the parking brake cable freezes. Sometimes you just need to take it somewhere warm to free it up, then flush it out with WD-40.

No, I never set the parking brake. The car drove fine for the first 15 minutes.

And no, I was not in a silver Minivan.

Found out what happened after getting it to my mechanic. One of the brake caliper bolts had come lose and had nearly sheared in half, causing the caliper to lock up. Thankfully no other damage. Cost of tow + Labour.
