I have several pictures I have inherited, they are mostly by the typical arties ie Robert Bateman, Randy Fehr, Paul Calle as well as some supposedly "valuable" native drawings, carvings etc.

My questions are:

1. Where do you get these type of things appraised in Calgary?

2. Where is the best place to seel the items?

Cant really say art is my thing, hopefully someone can chime in here.

Call the dealer or store these art works are available from today, they will know who to contact for an appraisal as well as the storing process. Native art is valuable if bought at the right time and from the right artist/maker. Google Allan Sapp for example, his work has been rising for decades and he is not getting any younger. If you have a large piece from the 70's or 80's you are owning a great investment.

Art is meant to be displayed, storing it away makes very little sense in my opinion unless there is a security or environmental reason.

I would never display this stuff it doesnt work with my decor but do agree with your sentiment that it shouldnt be hoarded away.
