When I looked into it a little while back my insurance was actually cheaper. Because during the winter months I'd have a beater with liability/fire/theft only. Then in the spring/summer I'd have my car with full coverage.

so how does it work.. if u have a beater.. so u only insure the car full coverage on your car from ... march til Oct.. then other time u have no coverage on your car but u will have cheap to no cover on your beater? and the total insurance work out to be cheaper?

I drive the Integra all year, but if I had a winter beater it would have to be a Subaru Justy! Come on an AWD tin can, you kwon you want it! Either that or a Subaru Loyale wagon. gotta have AWD to get up to the mountains for snowboardin'! plus it's fun drifting in the winter too:burnout:

Okay. For example-

6 months full coverage on my Accord
6 months fire and theft on my Accord (parked)
6 months basic coverage on a beater
6 months fire and theft on my beater

Fire and theft coverage for me is $15/month.
Overall, it worked out cheaper than driving the same car year round with full coverage.

Now a 87 Toyota Corolla GTS used to be a 98 Nissan Pathfinder which is now for sale. Maybe someone else wants it now for a winter beater?

87 Nissan Pathfinder or
88 BMW 325i are the winter beasts. Depending on which one the GF decides to take.

Insurance is pretty cheap for me and I get to keep all the cars on year round. I think the total insurance year round for 4 cars is just under 2k.

Insurance companies look for:

-Age, after 25 everything is gravy :P
-Martial status, married people tend to be less of a liability
-Assets, own a home
-Children, dependants also make you less of a liability (to them anyways)

When I turned 23 my insurance dropped from $4000 / year to $1700 / year.
