So, I thought I had purchased the truck, and part of the deal was a tow package installation. Apparently that only includes a 4 pin connector and a hitch. Sooo, I need a place that can install a 7 pin connection into my truck.

anyone know of a reputable shop that can do this fairly quickly?

Whatever you do, stay away from The Hitch Shop.

Do you already have the parts needed and just need them installed?

Why?

I've used and recommended them many times and haven't had any problems. :dunno:

I hate to say it... Just go to the dealer... You can do the install yourself, but they have a plug & play brake controller that integrates properly, and plug and play 7 pin - so no hacked wiring...

Had my hitch and controller done at Hitch Experts. Very professional, no issues. I would recommend them.

Also recently had a tonneau replaced at the Truck Outfitters. Was rather slow on the day I was in (they were short staffed) but otherwise no issues. :dunno:

Fordparts lists the 7pin harness at 31$ can't find the controller there, but 126$ for the OEM on eBay...

Don't hack wiring on a new truck...

http://www.fordparts.com/ <-punch in your vin, I picked the one with all the options... to see what pricing would be like...

Only question is if you need to hijack a ford tech to program the damn thing to turn on... fuckin canbus stuff...

Buy the controller from Fordparts or tasca parts.

Install it yourself. Go to Ford and ask them to activate it.

I've gone to both truck outfitters and cap-it. And I enjoyed cap-it way more. I found that there prices are about the same as online and they had good service. They installed my hitch even though I said I was going to do it. I'm sure it's only a few bolts but it all leads to good service.

alright, well, I am going to give this a shot myself.

Anyone know if it is true that on a 2012 F150 without a tow package, but it does have a factory installed flat 4 trailer connection, does the factory wiring harness have all the required wiring already run, and that all I need are a couple pigtails, a 7 pin receptacle, a charge relay and fuse to make this work?

no one can give me a straight answer, and google is flip flopping...

I need a drink. this is giving me a headache.

On the plus side, I picked up a Prodigy S3, and a equalizer hitch complete setup for $200.

ok, fucking FORD doesn't even know which harness I need. I spent an hour on the phone with one guy who at least at the end flat out said he could not figure it out with what their systems were giving him for info. So I went to another, had them do an oil change because i thought this was going to take awhile, and sure enough, another hour, and nothing. however, a lady brought her truck in, looked to be the same as mine, and so I asked if she minded if I crawled under to try and find a part number. She gave me the go ahead, and under I went.

I found part number AL3T-13A576-AA , and I figure that has to be the right part, but again, the parts guy does not know for sure because the wiring diagram does not show shit, and the description is so effed up, we can't tell if it is just a harness, or the whole bit.

anyone know anything about this shit and can give me a hand?

VIN is 1FTFW1ET1CFC26938

any light that anyone can shed on this would be greatly appreciated. I am way past frustration now.

I thought all trucks had a built in controller now? I guess not.

Are you going to be towing heavy? If so then you may want to install a transmission cooler too. This is installed from the factory with the tow kit but it sounds like yours doesn't have it.

I'd check vids and products on Etrailer if you want to try it yourself, they have some pretty decent videos and their website somewhat tailors the parts to your truck... may be worth a shot.

The controller is optional.

2009 trucks are different from 2010. 2011 got the productivity screen and so they are different from the 2010. I would bet the 2012s are the same as the 2011.
