Obviously I'm rather interested in this one, Shelby will be showing their version of a Mk3 ST tomorrow. Yellow with black wheels is all that's known so far, it's been a secret.

Interesting comment in the section below...

350hp Focus...

How has no one noticed this yet. Look in the background, see the GT350 banner. No way would they have a 350hp Mustang on display. I think we are looking at a 350hp GT350 ST.......awesome

Maybe the 350 stands for 3.5 ecoboost V6. :D Exciting car for sure especially if it has 350Hp!

The 2014 Focus RS is supposed to have 350 hp... so there is no reason why the Shelby version couldn't.

What are you guys rambling on about? Haha.
The GT350 isn't a Focus; it's a mustang.

The GT350 is a Mustang two cars down from the Focus and it's exactly what Disoblige linked, giant supercharger and all. Shelby has two unveilings tomorrow, a Mustang (I think it's supposed to be an Ecoboost) and a Focus. They're already displaying the GT350, 1000 and GTS.

I would be disappointed (yet unsurprised) if they just dropped an EcoBoost in to the Focus.

Shelby American is getting back into the pocket rocket business with the debut of the Shelby Focus ST at the Detroit auto show. The move recalls the era when Carroll Shelby turned Dodge subcompacts into tire-smoking machines.

Shelby also used the Detroit show to unveil a wide-body version of the GT500 Super Snake wide body.

Shelby fans will recall that in 1986 Carroll Shelby worked his magic on the Dodge Omni GLH hatchback. Shelby and his team modified the 2.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder to produce 175 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque, enough to propel the car from 0-60 mph in a quick-for-the-time 6.5 seconds. The Shelby GLH-S -- which originally stood for “Goes Like Hell Shelby” and was more commonly known as “Goes Like Hell S'more”-- proved that a front-engine, front-wheel-drive hatchback could be tuned for serious performance.

Flash-forward to the Shelby Focus ST, based on the high-performance Ford Focus ST. It has been tuned to produce more than 300 hp while still getting up to 40 mpg, according to Shelby American. Handling has been improved from the stock Focus ST via Ford Racing suspension parts to lower the car, along with new wheels and tires for better grip. Shelby spec brakes provide the stopping power, while the Shelby/Borla exhaust gives the Focus ST a distinct sound.

Functional hood vents, hydro-carbon grille inserts front and rear, Shelby lettering and a rear hydro-carbon spoiler mark the exterior. Buyers can choose between three graphics packages -- traditional Shelby stripes, Shelby checkered-flag splash or competition graphics.

Inside, the car has a custom Shelby-branded interior with a Shelby shifter and Shelby CSM badge.

The Shelby package adds $14,995 to whatever you pay for a Ford Focus ST. Shelby American will limit production to 500 units per year.

The seats are similar to the ST2 Recaros that are available on US STs, but not Canadian ones.

I figured 300 hp would be the number but overall I could be more impressed with the car.

When I was quickly glancing over sputnik's quote there I saw a 175hp 2.2 engine and was so pissed! Then I kept reading

Flip is right, those seats are God-awful. Both colour scheme and the entire lack of bolstering. That decal on the side is super gay.

300+ HP is pretty insane for that small car. Didn't see anything about AWD though :( At ~$45K, it starts to bring in some other serious contenders.

In America one of the ST trim levels includes two-tone Recaros, and one of the accent colour options is yellow; they look amazing and I hate that we can't have them. These are similar but I feel the Recaros still look better.

They're mine (SE Sport/Base ST) but recovered in leather with different colours.

Honestly, in cloth they're fantastic seats but from some angles they look less bolstered in the Shelby ST.

Who works the market research department at Shelby? I can't see anybody who is a Shelby fan buying this atrocity, if anything they're out buying V6 mustangs and throwing their own bright yellow canadian tire seat covers in while gluing made up trim badges to the back trunk. Any hot hatch people are going to hold out and hope the RS comes stateside with more power out of the box.

That ain't new. Remember the blatant money-grab that was the Shelby GT? SVT does the real magic these days, Shelby mostly just sticks badges on things afterwards.

In Europe the Focus is more in line with the GTI than something like the WRX and STI. Ford is all about volume sales, I don't know if there is a big enough market for AWD that would justify adding a significant premium to the price tag.

I am starting to wonder how this will translate to Canadian STs.

Since this is a base model US ST, the starting price would be much lower than north of the border. Adding $15000 would land you around $38-40K total; in comparison STs here tend to be around $35K new, since we have less options and are forced to have the HID headlights and full leather Recaro seats.

Ya im pretty disappointed in what the interior looks like, its terrible and i would never pay an extra 15k for what they put into it.

To me, shelby exudes the performance aspect of their cars but over the years they have done some seriously bad upgrades, focusing on the external aspect, which is ok, but man, get with the times!

I swear that this has been upgraded from west coast customs, it looks like their garbage. Would be way better if they just left the interior alone.

Well on a Hyundai it costs 2K additional for an "as-needed" haldex AWD addition. So I can't see it being a huge premium price tag if they kept it to wrx level diffs and such (no need for sti/evo level awd). Awd or the shitty yellow seat covers? :P

Just an update, we got some wires crossed and the 300hp isn't actually confirmed. The model they had in Detroit had the same 252 horsepower as a normal ST.

Twenty, $45,000 is the absolute lowest you'll pay for a Shelby Focus in Canada, and that's assuming the $15,000 they charge doesn't go up for Canadians. If you option out the Focus then you're up to $52,000.

They said that they will be tuning the engine, they just hadn't managed to get a confirmed number out of it yet. 300 was their goal. Whether or not they'll hit it is unknown. Regardless, even if they manage to get 350 horsepower out of it, there are cheaper and cleaner ways of achieving a badass Focus.
