Ok, spikers getting an RV, Cdave driving me nuckin futz with his continual trips and pics...

Not to re-start a lude adventure, but any interest in booking one of the group camps for a weekend this spring/summer?

This is my favorite:
http://rockymountaincamping.ca/Honeymoon.html

140/night for 20 sites (some could easily take 2 RVs) Cord of wood is 80$ delivered...

yeah, I think we can be convinced to go.

This is going to be a child friendly trip or is this more adult oriented?

Well I'll have a 9yr old and <1yr old in tow, so better be family friendly ;)

Oh, no hookups, but yes outhouses (weren't that bad when we were there) sites are good n separated, 2-3 pull-throughs...

I'd be down for a family friendly one too.

I'm somewhat interested. We've got a little trailer, and by summer my girls will be 4 and 1.

is the access road Black Series freindly?

I talked to the wife, and confirmed. Nail down the date.. basically if you have 3-4 families, you're set on price vs regular camping (including wood)..

That is, as long as none of your names is really "Peter File", or anything like that.. lol

spikerS
01-19-2013, 08:53 PM
yeah, Baygirl and I are in as well, we can nail down a date and costs, and we will be there.

AndyL

Dunno about black series, wasn't too bad past few summers, but it is a forestry road...

My temptation is using it as the annual spring thaw, we usually sneak away a week or two before may long, as a shake-down run, make sure everythings working right before the real camping starts...

Even with just 6 of us, that's just 20ish a night (+wood) - can't get a campground site for that much...

Whatever, the children might make it seem unappealing which I can understand, but lots of guys here have children and you can't stop their fun. Doesn't mean people who don't have children can't enjoy themselves around the site.

I'd be interested, are people bringing friends and stuff or is this more a beyond only type of deal?

I am under the impression that this is a beyond group camp, but I may be over ruled. I know if it gets retarded, in either size or actions, I will be bugging out pretty quick.

AndyL

I'd like to keep it beyonders/family... Lets put it in the "You're gonna be responsible for your crowd" clause in place - and you know you're gonna hear about it if they get out of hand:) Let's try to avoid 'lude incidents... If somone wants to setup a non-g-rated trip - I wont object.

Any thoughts, do I run with my idea and do a season opener? may long could be done - we know its 50/50; at least its a guaranteed spot for many - and keeps us away from the nutters... I know my family is nuts and tend to start early / finish late - I'm guessing many probably don't agree...

Let me be the first to say that if this is May long, I'm out. I sleep inside the city limits for that weekend, based on many years of douchbaggery witnessed.

Regular weekend seems to me to have a better chance of attendance. The few long weekends in our short summer are pretty sacred.

I have a group of friends that head out to the North Ghost Camp ground out by waiprous usually the weekend BEFORE may long. When we have gone out, the place is EMPTY which is always pretty awesome.

May long might not be bad for the place Andy has in mind, as we would be taking the whole area, and it has a lockable entrance to keep out the less desirables, which could provide a decent buffer from the usual douchebaggery that is may long...

So took the girls out for the youngest one's birthday this weekend, and both girls loved it!

so is there any interest in doing this? Anyone willing to do the legwork to organize it?

Hey spikers isn't there a fire ban on this weekend?

ExtraSlow

That Honeymoon location will NOT have cell reception. If you need cell reception, you'll be looking at places in Bow Valley or Peter Lougheed parks, and I suspect those are booked for most weekends already.

Also, the mountains are not currently under a fire ban this weekend. I expect them to be by next weekend.

There usually is every may long weekend. I just came back from a camping trip, boards were all reporting fire hazard as high, so even if that doesn't change, being may long, and all the drunk rowdys, they probably will put a fire ban in place to play it safe.

Depends where he went. We were up at Burnt Timber and the ban didnt come in until ASRD raised it for all central and southern alberta after we left.

Just went to Bow Valley Campground. Was the first trip with the girls, so we didn't want to go too far. Like I said, all the signs we saw said fire hazard was "HIGH", never saw any "EXTREME"

We had some marginal reception out there... i think telus/bell worked, rogers et al - not without a drive up the top of the ridge.

I wasnt hearing any thoughts on dates, so kinda let it drop...

Yeah there were no fire bans out in Kananaskis or Bow Valley PP.

Kinda wish there was. Charged $8 a SMALL bundle of wood there.

I think I am going to either go do some tree falling or buy a cord or 2 of wood, and truck a bunch in with me.

Haha...welcome to PP camping. I go through a minimum of 3 bundles per night. It's 3/$20 if you buy them together. I'll buy about $80 worth right off the bat. That's 12 bundles and will last me about 4 nights.

You can't cut your own, or even gather up deadfall.

You CAN bring your own if you like, but then you're hauling a few hundred pounds of extra weight, although your truck will help with that. Using a nice SUV like I do, bringing our own wood isn't worth the hassle.

Also, I just have to buy it at Burnco, and that's not much cheaper than the $8/bundle.

I just chalk it up to a "necessity". Much like your campsite fees, firewood fees are all a part of it. and it's just not camping without a fire. If there's an actual fireban on within a PP campground, I won't even go.

ExtraSlow

The bundles of wood are very expensive everywhere. Bringing your own is a good idea. There are lots of people who deliver firewood in this city. Burnco also sells it in bulk for a pretty good price, but sometimes it's a bit wet, so you should count on seasoning it for a few months.

I already have four camping weekends booked, plus a few in town.

My suggested dates: Aug 9-11 or 16-18th weekends.

Way would be the best way to narrow down a date and a location? I would imagine the closer the more people would come out and there is some who only like power.

What about location suggestions?

ExtraSlow
06-19-2013, 05:58 AM
The locations will be tough, most of the group sites are already booked, at least anything within two hours of calgary, and the regular campgrounds are as well, especially the power and water sites.

A different way to go is to rent a community hall in the country and have everyone park the trailers and RVs around it. I went to a great event at Coburn hall.
