New Calgary Police cruisers

Saw a post awhile back and couldn't find it but just saw one in service last night near bow trail/westbrook location.

Big ball of blue/red strobes. Think they over did it on the lights it seems.

As a guy who stands on the side of the road every day at work, I'll tell you there's no overkill on emergency lights with these cars. I hope our new Interceptor lights up like a Christmas tree.

Those Chargers look badass. EPS has a few and while they're a great lookin car, they're pretty junky to work out of. I used Strathcona County's Dodge for a day in trainign and I hated it. Cramped car.

The new Ford though; beauty. It's a perfet police car.

I'm pretty sure I've seen an Explorer, or whatever they're using decked out in the new scheme, looked pretty good.
I haven't seen the new Ford yet but I've heard the Charger is the more expensive/less practical option.

The are 100% cosmetic and are pretty much only used to hold lights/ appear aggressive. They will crumple as soon as you hit them, the only thing they are good for is to hold a car in place, not to ram anything.

My best guess the new one is just a black car with white vinyl wrap on door + decals. Probably cost less than the old end to end blue reflective stripe.

my home town won canadas best looking cop car in 2012, they changed to the black/white a LONG time ago now, I can honestly say having one in your rearview mirror is intimidating. Now they also have a silver/graphite grey color style one.

I saw the same CPS police color scheme in a fairly recent movie (black car, white door)... designer prob saw the same movie and went with it.

Agree with the lights... definitely help with being more noticed, especially at night.

The one I saw was parked right before the intersection on a cross street. I slowed down and eventually stopped (I had a green) thinking it was going to go through. Nope. Just sat there and eyed me down haha.

Eventually went through and kept checking in the rear view mirror to see if it was going to come and :guns: me. (metaphorically)

Here in Edmonton with them I find that the new paint scheme is a lot easier to spot during the day, but at night the black is stealthy versus the white, the only time you notice them is when the street lights reflect off the car's light bar.

I think white would have been better for the chargers. How many white chargers do you see ever? It would be a dead giveaway imo

They've also got ghost-car versions of the new Explorer, there was a silver one pulling over people on McKnight tonight.

The B&W cars are not in rotation yet, there are 4-5 out there all with different decal packages. They are waiting on public and member feedback sometime later this year. Once they decide which one they like, they will cycle in the new cars.

As someone quite rightly noted, theres a hundred plus new Crown Vic's in white, still waiting to be put in service. These will be cycled in 1st. My guess is, you wont see these new cars hit the road for a year or so, and will take up to 3yrs to have them all B&W.

The unmarked explorer is used by the traffic section. We have 2 of them, they have been around for a year or so.

The big F350's are used by the truck unit, they have a huge amount of tools, scales etc in the back of them. They actually have decalling on the sides.

Ahh, ok. I didnt mean it was fully decaled, my bad. It has a " think and drive" sign on the doors. The canopy has something written on it as well. Its kinda sneaky, but if you are alert you can figure it out really quick.

I have seen 3 of the new f150s I think in different colors unless my eyes were playing tricks on me. I have also seen a black 1st gen durango pulling people over, was quite old but this was only last year, didn't make much sense to me :confused:

Red charger is the sneaky bugger who drove behind me, managed to get down all my info and mail me a ticket after pulling over the person at the same speed infront of me. :rofl:

Do you know the models of the unmarked photo radar equipped cars that just take pictures while parked on the side of the road? Or all they all just Caravans/and the 1 F150 that I've seen?
I know they are peace officers so might be a different unit entirely.

Cause those things are scarier to me as if your really not paying attention they get you good. Sometimes at stupid places though like Memorial dr past crowchild where it jumps from 50 to 70 to 50 where I was hit 2 times long ago.

They work from the traffic office, but have there own area. I honestly have no clue what they have now. Its an assortment of trucks and vans, and I think they had a green Escape, but that might have been on lian while they were trialing new equipment.

'bout 4 years ago when I was still living in Calgary I saw a Grey RX8 with decals and lights for CPS, along with a black Corvette with only police issue lights on the exterior, full package CPS interior. There was also a white Audi, but I can't remember which model, again, exterior was police issue lights only.

When I was driving my FRS home for the first time (first manual trans. car) I stalled in front of the Red Charger.

I then proceeded to start it up and peel away from the Charger immediately afterwards in a panick. For some reason he didn't pull me over, but probably because he assumed or knew I was new to driving stick, but boy am I ever thankful he didn't. :banghead:

I see that blue charger pulling people over on Deerfoot in the SE all the time. I know there is also at least one gold colored GMC Canyon with a headache rack running around town as I got a window tint ticket from it a couple years ago.

In no particular order, badass blacked out Charger (sexy, very sexy), black F150 (might be the one that got toasted) a couple of different white F150's (sneaky fuckers, LOL) , blue Challenger (love the colour!) the dark red Charger.
The photo guys have got a Dodge pick up in addition to the usual Caravans.
The new black and white Explorers look kinda weird to me but maybe in time.

They'll still have Explorers (aka the Ford Interceptor Utility) and a bunch of oddball units just like now, but the bulk of the fleet will be this car.
Wondering if they are phasing out the full size vans? Some of those aren't paddy wagons, but just used for regular patrol. Seems to me the Interceptor Utility would be better.

They'll still have Explorers (aka the Ford Interceptor Utility) and a bunch of oddball units just like now, but the bulk of the fleet will be this car.
Wondering if they are phasing out the full size vans? Some of those aren't paddy wagons, but just used for regular patrol. Seems to me the Interceptor Utility would be better.
I wonder if they went all out with the Ecoboost AWD or if they got the 3.5L FWD. Hopefully the latter :rofl:

Probably a mix, But I'd guess the vast majority are the cheaper option. it's a huge fleet.

No sudden influx, the replacement schedule will not change.

I thought that the CPS no longer initiate vehicle chases on city streets? If the only performance requirements are to pull a J-turn in a tightly packed Tim Horton's lot, I'd say that anything more powerful than a Daewoo shitbox is overkill for CPS.

You must be forgetting that Calgary's finest do enjoy partaking in the occasional drag race off the light to the nearest Tim Hortons, for that the Ecoboost AWD would be perfect..... no tire spinning :D
