Grey Eagle Casino Buffet

How many have tried it? I've found it to be one of the best buffets in Calgary. I've been to; Palliser's, Deerfoot Inn, Smugglers, Calgary Zoo, Daltons at Greenwood Inn, Asian Buffet (formerly Treasures of China), Smitty's buffet....

But we went to Grey Eagle a few weeks ago and I was blown away by it. Huge selection of everything. Clean. No empty or cold carts and very cheap!! We've been there a couple of times now and both times were maybe a 10 minute wait.

So last night we decided to try their $22 Seafood Buffet. Walked in around 7:00 and MOTHER OF GOD the lineup must've had 300 people in it!!!!! I figured about a 2 hour wait.
We walked away very disappointed.

Yes, that was a very strange experience. I had forgotten how strong that cig smoke smell was. But inside the actual restaurant it's pretty much nil. We went to have a few drinks and listen to the live band at the stage afterwards, and I couldn't take 15 minutes of it. Table right beside us had 4 cigs going, all of which were slowly drifting right at us. We had to leave.

Haha Mondays are busy nights cause it's only $10! Actually I've never been there on any night but on a Monday haha! The place is so packed with Chinese people, I kid you not, I've mistaken the wrong people for my mom and sisters. If that's not fitting the stereotype, I don't know what is :rofl:

I actually don't even notice the smoke cause it's a beeline to the buffet for me haha

What I find absolutely amazing, is how do these little Asian women pack the food away at these buffets? I'm over 200 lbs and I might have two full plates, and then maybe some desert. Then I look over at some little old lady, weighing less than 100 lbs and she's on her fourth plate still going strong!!

Buffet tactics: Go for the expensive stuff first then work your way down (Seafood first, then meat, so on and so forth).

In reality, you can't really beat the buffet but you gotta make your monies worth!

Thursdays? Try to be there before 6 if you don't want to wait.

The 1st wave are usually done around 7-8pm. So showing up later than 6 will be a couple hours of wait.

Worse if you have big group. Food is ok. Lobster tails are more like crawfish.

If you don't mind the drive, Stoney Nakoda's Friday Steak and Lobster is way better imo for the same price.

I disagree. Wednesday night Asian buffet is the busiest. If you don't show up right at 5pm, you're waiting in line for ever.


Personally I like their 2 dinner buffet for 20 bucks thing in Tuesday. Decent selection, usually two different meats at the carving station. And it includes a non-alcoholic beverage. Can't beat that in my opinion.

Are minors not allowed at the buffet? I know its in a casino, but we've been to the brunch buffet at River Cree in Edmonton with our daughter and you don't enter through the casino there.

Would like to try it, but will be difficult if we can't bring our daughter.

No, not at Grey Eagle. Sign right on the entrance to that effect, and it's the only way in. My youngest turns 18 in 4 days....he can't wait! lol

I went on a remembrance day wednesday (whatever year that is). 5pm the line into the place took until 7pm. The line for food took an hour. Turns out everyone was waiting for the custom made sushi and we could've bypassed all that.

Yep, love the Thursday buffet. Can't beat the value, but I've found it's hit or miss. Sometimes they have HUGE crab legs / scampies and other times they are tiny.

If you look at the line it's literally 95% Asians.. Pretty interesting. It's the only time I ever feel tall in a crowd of people :rofl:

Differences between Asian night and Seafood night are:

- Lobster tails, Snow crab, shrimps on Seafood night
- More Caucasians/people on Seafood night
- 3 dollars on Seafood night
- BBQ meats on Asian night
- Tired chinese guy making sushi and having plates of sashimi on Asian night
- Gai lan, Choi Sum or Snow pea tips, AND Clams/Mussel in Black bean sauce on Asian night

In all honesty, the Asian night at 19.99 is a pretty decent deal because the sashimi you can get. Seafood is good, but then you have way more people on Thursday and chances of it being packed is much higher.

The hubby and I go to the Thursday nights from time to time. Very good for what you pay...but we get nowhere near as much food as most ppl and tap out after two plates.

We should try the Asian night. Sounds pretty good.

Went to try the Seafood night a few weeks ago. It was decent. There was 1 asian family just camping the scallops, almost started a feud with another asian family. LOL

This. Every single time I go I feel like I'm in China town. I love my cheap food as much as the next Chinese guy, but the line up gets ridiculous. For that reason alone, I rarely ever go. Even after the main line up just to get in, you have to line up for a while to get any good (at least for a buffet) sushi. Asians know how to get their moneys worth from buffets :rofl:
