Did they loosen the strut tower nut before pulling the assembly out? I'm not a mechanic and I know enough not to do that, haha.

Haha. I had a job working a small town mechanic shop when I was 16. I remember one of the mechanics compressing a spring with the compression tool when it failed. Spring ended up stuck in the ceiling.

I find it funny that that old guy was teaching that new guy how to do it, yet he didn't even know WTF he was doing himself. Like the blind leading the blind.

I've been hit by 2 lol.

One was from ignorance (pre apprencticeship), the the other from using the wrong compressor and ignorance lol.

I had one hit my safety glasses and create an outline of the glasses on my face lol.

I'm guessing he flat out took off the top nut or loosened it way too much. Amateur mistake. Although I've seen reaaaaaally busted old springs that don't even need to be pressed to come out but you never wanna take that chance and always be safe.

on mcpherson struts i've always taken the nut off and put a jack under the control arm. that way when you lower the jack there is no tension on the spring.
