I'm travelling with my family (mom, aunt, sister, etc) to Hong Kong in Sept or Oct. We are looking for a hotel to stay and I remember seeing a thread a while back discussing this. Does anyone have any suggestions on hotels/areas to stay in HK?

Thanks

What's your budget like and what area?

How many people total? I highly recommend this "hostel" in Jordan, Kowloon. The three women could share a room for 3 (3 single beds) I think it's $600hkd/night. A single room with a single bed is $330hkd/night. I say "hostel" because you get your own bathroom and it's more like a tiny hotel room.

Very convenient right on Nathan Road and 2 blocks from Jordan MTR entrance.

There will be 6 total (mom, aunt, sister, bro in law, wife and me). I don't think my mom and aunt would be willing to stay in a hostel.

At this point we haven't set a firm budget but since we will need 3 rooms we'd like to keep in under CAD$200/night/room. None of us have been to HK before so we will be doing to typically tourist stuff. We will be taking taxis to most locations or hiring a tour guide.

I strongly suggest you consider Dragon Hostel. One of the best. Centrally located in Mong Kok.

Hyatt Kowloon. Right near Nathan road and easy access everywhere. Should be around your budget.

I've stayed in a lot of hotels in HK/Kowloon and this is probably my favorite do to price/class/location. Sheraton, JW, W are all nice as well but not worth the extra cost.

For most of the touristy stuff, you'll be way better off taking the MTR than sitting in traffic in a taxi. I'd probably skip the tour guide too... you'd be surprised how many people there speak english.

In the other thread linked, I recommended the Madera hotel in Jordan. Only about $150/night, really central, close to the subway (MTR) and nice/clean/spacious, even by North American standards.

You can get everywhere with the MTR. Just grab a tourist Octopus card.

I stayed at the Eaton Smart in Jordan. Short walk from the Jordan station. One stop away from Tsim Sha Tsui. Don't remember exactly how much we paid but it was definitely under $150/night.

Maybe try finding an apartment through AirBNB?

I tried the AirBNB route to look for a decent place in Kowloon. Overage was $180 before the fees and additional cleaning fees, etc. I ended up booking a room at the Rosedale Kowloon using my corporate hotel rate. Ended up being $175 with all fees, free daily buffet breakfast. It's a small 10-15 minute walk from Langham but worth checking out.

I've stayed in Metropark MongKok for about $150 per night. The hotel is decent and it is literally 1 min walk from Prince Edward MTR C2 exit. Its pretty central and about 15 min walk to MongKok and you are in the interchange station pretty much branch off anywhere you want in HK.

But price varies depending on when you go to HK. Just make sure you don't go during China holidays or HK will be flooded with mainlanders.

I'm gonna be there in less than 24 hours. Totally rethinking my booking at dragon hostel. Probably the last time I'm taking advice from max_boost hahaha

Don't worry. You would has as much trouble at 4 star hotels at Wan Chai. You can't predict civil unrest and where it happens.

Mong Kok is cheap for a reason but was never unsafe.

How's the hostel? Budget and clean? Friendly? Get some street food downstairs? haha

Hostel is literally 2 blocks from the protest on Nathan.
Clean but the place I recommended in Jordan is cleaner. Budget same as the Jordan place. They currently have me in a 3 bed until a single opens up. Just got back from having dumplings at the corner. Been up since 3am (7 now). Stupid jetlag.

Anything specific I should see around here?
