Hey guys, My mom needs a smart phone for work, as that way she can check her email on the go and whatnot.

I was thinking of finding her a good used Iphone 4 or Samsung Galaxy 3 for just that.

(Nothing Blackberry).

Just wondering as to what plans you guys have for unlimited Canada wide calling, data and the like. Basically Im/we're open to anything outside of Fido/Rogers (I had an abysmal encounter with Rogers many years ago that had to be settled in small claims court, basically they fucked up badly and refused to admit fault).

So Im open to Koodo, Bell or Telus (etc).
My co-worker has a plan through Koodo thats $40-50/month, with unlimited Canada wide calling, and there is no contract whatsoever along with 1gig of data/month which will be plenty for her.

Is this basically the best out there? or are there better plans. Im thinking of getting a smartphone for her and using that plan. (Im with telus myself). But what can you guys recommend?

Thanks a ton for reading this and offering any advice, its much appreciated.

well, if you are interested, I can get you access to some discounted hardware and plans. As far as I know, I don't get any kick backs for it, but it is pretty common knowledge who my employer is, i just dont want to break any rules.

the thing spikers is going to PM you would offer the best plans for brand new customers (since pretty much everyone else will tell you to pick a plan from their public website and go from there). No discounts on plans or phones apart from new customer pricing. With the spikers deal you usually save more money on phones and sometimes plans too (especially value packs) I was thinking about doing it as well but called Rogers and they offered me a deal too...so i just stuck with them :nut:

I have a white galaxy s3 i could sell you too that has very little usage (but if you are going with what spikers sends you, you would sign up on a contract and get a much cheaper phone i guess lol )

otherwise i made this thread to find out what ppl have and what they are paying as well

http://forums.beyond.ca/st/363261/post-your-cell-phone-plan-and-price/

Currently there are no killer promos that i know of (like the fido $56 plan from christmas/new years time) but check out this place too. Once you are a customer for ~6 months or so you can call in and try to get better deals. If you are with telus urself now do some reading in the telus retentions thead and see what is being offered to ppl now and call in yourself to see if they will let you add another line with a retentions phone plan (ive read some ppl have accomplished this before, but most times they deny you..)

http://forums.redflagdeals.com/ongoing-deal-discussion-f129/

this goes directly to the telus retentions thread
http://forums.redflagdeals.com/merged-telus-retention-plan-617794/

there are threads for Bell and Rogers as well in there

I haven never been with wind so I don't know their coverage, but I have been looking at their plans and hands down they seem to be the best out there.

They have a 40$ unlimited plan, with everything unlimited. Plus if you are bringing over a phone you don't have to worry about the wind tab. I just don't know how their coverage is outside of calgary?

I just checked, and it says if you bring your own phone can get up to 300$ in service credits....

If your bringing your own unlocked device, Koodo will give you a 10% discount off of any rate plan that they have in market. http://koodomobile.com/en/on/switch2koodo.shtml

So, for example https://shop.koodomobile.com/plans/plans/index.html, the current $60 plan after your 10% for doing a sim only activation(having your own device) will cost you $54.

For $54 you will get:
Unlimited Canada wide calling
Unlimited text, picture messaging (includes international as well)
Call ID, voicemail, conference calling, call waiting
1 GB Data

Network and coverage will not be an issue, Koodo is part of Telus. If you wanted to cheap out and go the WIND mobile route, then it is pretty much "you get what you pay for"(shitty coverage, cheap plans)

Hope that helps.

I had a comment written that would reveal it in "not so obvious, but pretty damn obvious" way.... but thought its not my place to do so :nut:

Wind mobile roams on rogers when you leave their coverage zone at $0.25 a minute i believe (cant remember the data cost but it costs as well) and i have no experience with their coverage

if koodo has that plan available for $60 it sounds pretty damn similar (if not the exact same lol) as the deals that were up a couple months ago (fido $57/$56 plan, etc) and if u bring ur own phone it puts u much cheaper than the other companies (rogers, telus, bell)

from looking at the place spikers would have PM'd, it seems Koodo plan would be the best for you

//edit

actually fido has the exact same plan too as Koodo under smart plans beside the $50 plan (u have to scroll that damn bar to the right to be able to see it... hidden on purpose?? :nut: haha )
http://www.fido.ca/web/page/portal/Fido/MonthlyPlans/Group2

includes a value pack with:

Call Display with Name Display and WhoCalled
Canada-Wide Calling
Visual Voicemail Plus
2,500 Call Forwarding minutes
