View Full Version : Do you use Gmail with your blackberry z10? Your emails may not actually be deleted..

if so, did you know....

Google fucked over the freeloaders by turning off exchange activesync unless you have a paid account for google apps... :thumbsdow so IMAP is the only way to go now (Along with CalDAV and CardDav for syncing calendars and contacts, respectively...but CalDAV is an issue too on z10 it looks like right now.. involving waiting 2-3 days in order for it to setup properly..)

ANYWAYS now for the point of this thread

i just went into my gmail and clicked on "All Mail" only to find every single email that i thought i had deleted from my z10 in the last couple days sitting there in ... limbo... i guess you can call it... (google calls it "archiving" the email... since it doesnt have any labels attached to it... WTF google if i wanted to archive it, wouldnt I just move it to a folder called archive?? :nut: )

on another note, according to my tests outlook.com email addresses work well and have exchange activesync enabled and allows you to sync email, contacts and even multiple calendars as you want

im pretty close to autoforwarding my gmail to outlook.com and sorting it all into a GMAIL folder to make life easier haha

yes double post... :dunno:

http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/gmail/s4o1kSbwVko

something i found retarded...
Gmail is setup to automatically archive all emails when you use IMAP looks like (according to the default option)

using google i found that link above..

the funny part?

So, Auto-Expunge deals with emails that you delete, right?

If it is enabled, then what I delete on a phone (email with Inbox and Work labels) will immediately remove the Inbox label but still have the Work label online. Basically archiving it, even though I hit delete on the phone.

If it is disabled, then what I delete on a phone (email with Inbox and Work labels) will not change and keep the Inbox and Work labels online. Basically doing nothing to it, even though I hit delete on the phone.

Are these right?

which is correct...
so when you DELETE it doesnt actually DELETE :banghead:

//edit
following this post it now looks like its doing what it should... when i hit delete on the z10 it sends it to the "trash" label...which will then empty after 30 days..

I never realized this shit until now, maybe it'll help someone else here too

I have my iPhone setup on active sync since it was before Google stopped it and it works fine (when I delete it correctly sends to trash label) same with my 9780 when it was I'm use a couple years ago

And that link from Google is from a couple years ago so IMAP I guess just works like that I guess? It's news to me since I'm not used to it and from changing those settings in Google now it seems to work as it should.

I thought I read something on Google about the iPhone correctly handling this by default so :dunno: if that's how ur guys iphones work isn't it annoying? Do u manually go in and clean up from time to time?

i never delete emails. all my reoccurring emails are tagged so they go into their own filing system. the rest i file every now and then. i like to use my email as an extension of my memory. why would i want to delete them?
