Never seen one in real life though (Where can you order Lotus' -- and which models are legal here?). :dunno:

I've seen a black Lotus Esprit here a few times before. As for ordering one...I have no clue. No where near being able to afford one right now so I try not to even think about it. Possible Charles English Fine Cars or something :dunno:

I still like the Lotus esprit better..:D V8 twin Turbo 3.5L

Didn't they down size the engine on the new lotus and

make it extremely light???

I've seen a couple Lotus Elise/Exige's in person, most recently at the last E3 conference (someone had one for their booth).

Definately worth killing for as a track car. There is a guy from the British Military in Monterey that has a legally imported one that he drives on the street.. he gets an exemption cause he is training and was allowed to bring over his personal vehicle.

Did you guys read that article in SCC months back with they took the elise and put a B18C5 in it! I couldn't believe the numbers that they were producing. 12 second 1/4 miles and other crazy slalom times....what a great article.
How much you figure an elise would cost here in Canada?

You can pick up a new one for about 40k US in the states, so about 60k CDN. A used one will be a bit less, and a VTEC conversion (which is popular for smog reasons) would probably run about 45k US.

Rob,
I'm curious as to whether you mean full motor swap or just an additional VTEC head put on?
Also, why does a B18c5 fit so nicely and easily in a lotus?

What I was referring to is the somewhat common practice of swapping out the Lotus motor and replacing it with a VTEC 4 cylinder. I've seen both 1.6 and 1.8L variants, and they seem to work very well in the car. Honda makes amazingly good engines, and in a car that light, they really fly.

I'm not sure that it fits in easily or nicely, but I do know that it fits. I think that because the car is made with simpicity in mind, the wiring and stuff like that is kept very simple, and therefor it is easier to do an engine swap than on a more fully featuerd car.

Thanks Rob,

For that price I might just drop the SLK and go lotus hunting.
It's always nice to have two B18C5's in the garrage anyway!
;) ;) ;);)

VC out.
