Has anyone ever had a home theater receiver repaired? Mines been sitting for awhile, it was only a couple years old when it started having problems. Is it worth it to get it checked out and does anyone have any recommendations for a repair shop?

Coincidentally I am looking for a shop to repair my Onkyo too... I don't suppose yours is the 606 having HDMI problems?

Apparently the only authorized shop around here for Onkyo is SMS located in Cochrane. A friend suggested I give Southland Crossing TV a call however they don't seem to do Onkyo (at least from their site anyway).

Ya it is the tx sr606. It seems to be problem with the HDMI. Like it doesn't recognize the signal coming in. At first it started slowly, nothing would show up on the TV right away, then I would cycle the power or switch the source and it would come on. It basically go worse and worse, tried different cables and it happened on my ps3 and PVR.

Anyway, I dropped it off at Bestech electronics so I'll let u know what happens.

Bestech told me they can't get the part. I guess its changed in the last month... would you mind letting me know how much it ends up costing you when they repair it?

This is what they emailed me at the end of Jan:

Hello xxxxxx,
Our suppliers do not have HDMI board for TX-SR606.
We suggest that you contact Onkyo for more information.
Thanks

Are you offering to help? I will exchange your services for an 80GB seagate external usb drive. :poosie:

Damn wish I waited for the replies before bringing it in. Just wasted 52.50 diagnostic fee

After reading that thread I wish I had searched the subject before bringing it in. The thing is the receiver was just sitting there for a couple years, i had pretty much given up on it. Originally I couldn't find any info on it and it was just outside the warranty.

Anyways, I'll guess at what's going to happen. Bestech will get back to me saying it needs a new HDMI daughterboard and either they can't get it or I won't be willing to pay. Once I get it back i'll try out that mod. I was an electronics grad at SAIT so I'm sure i can handle the mods even though it's been awhile lol

Bahaha, Gimme my drive back!..

I want it full of new stuff though.

Im a little out of practice, but if you order the parts, and bring it over I could take a whack at it.

(Also im in the NW now, so you dont have to travel to the NE)

I have the exact same issue, on the exact same receiver, going to read up on those links when I get home.

I have everything I need to replace those 4 caps, hopefully it works!

I picked up some 100uF 25V 105'F electrolytic caps at B & E Electronics, also for anyone interested, Active Tech didn't have sh1t,but MRO in the NE has some 16V caps

will post results...

Edit

Done. Replaced C8609,8162,8602,8096,8002 with 100uF caps, just like the guy in the video, and I also added a 0.1uF (104) cap across Vout and GND of the 3 pin transistor as per the tech bulletin here (http://www.avsforum.com/t/1246078/how-to-diy-tx-sr576-tx-sr606-etc-hdmi-daughterboard-repair-for-dummies/30#post_18993413)

MIxed results, my PVR and PS3 seem to be working fine now through HDMI inputs 1 and 2. However i had problems using inputs 3 and 4, i'll have to play around some more with that. Also I couldn't get my xbox working via component inputs  Also I still don't have on screen display for the setup. That was supposed to be fixed with this.

So all in all, at least I get to use the receiver for TV and PS3.:)
