View Full Version : Scammer Alert: If you're in the market for a Subaru STi, don't buy this one!!

Cliff's:

- A 2006 Subaru STi was sold for $15,000.00 w/ engine problems (disclosed by the seller), late last month. The car had 103,000 miles when it was sold.

- The exact car shows up on kijiji Calgary 3 days later for $28,000.00. However, it now has 50,000 miles.

- It is alleged that the person who bought the car has messed with odometer readings for other STi's in the past as well.

I just wanted to make sure that no one on the board here gets screwed over by purchasing this car. An associate of someone on WSC almost made that mistake.

I think it's a combination of the angle and the glass. They're more vertical than most windshields due to the design, and something about them makes them feel thinner or lighter to me.

Cracked glass is a classic Subie issue though.

So why doesn't anyone that knows the identity of the seller go to the police? Plenty of evidence given the previous owner disclosing the mileage wich was likely on the bill of sale as well.

This thread is useless as someone will still buy the car and get screwed and the best way to stop this from happening is to ensure the seller gets busted.

They don't really do jack, I purchased a car some years ago from a "dealer". After finding out the odometer was rolled back, I went to CPS who told me to go to RCMP who said go to AMVIC. After getting the run around from many people I just gave up.

I remember looking at this car approximately 6~ months ago.

The price looked really good and at 103,000 miles it was reasonable.

The problem was...... THE ODOMETER HAD ALREADY BEEN TAMPERED WITH.

I carproofed this car and there was some huge gaps in the mileage. it went backwards at one point. it only gained about 20K miles in 5-6 years....

Needless to say this car is tainted.

Kijiji Scammer (http://www.westernsubaruclub.com/smf/index.php?topic=34029.0)

It's unbelievable to think a person could blatantly break the law and tamper with odometers and just keep doing it without facing discipline. You would think at the very least he would be afraid for his safety if he sells one of the cars to the wrong type of person that may take the law into their own hands.

since we are on the same topic, this other STI has been sold not too long ago for like $15,000 (using the same pictures none the less) with disclosed engine issues also... kinda weird seeing it up for sale again "in perfect condition and very well maintained" a couple months later for $6k more

This one is different than the one in this thread at least the engine bay is. I'm losing track of all these shady STI's. Is there a third one out there being flipped? The dccd transmission is a bonuse though.

The scammer has two STi's in his fleet right now. The black one has been taken off the market due to the "heat" he received from WSC. I'm sure it will show up for sale again in the near future.

this is a 3rd one that i was once interested in buying not too long ago and came across it now again as i was looking for the black 06 this thread is about. i was wondering due to the quick flip, phony story about maintenance and price increase if its the same guy

He has had a blue 04 or 05 listed that had tampered mileage/swapped cluster with engine problems.

Now the 06 STi with swapped cluster and a misfire on #4.

Also has a 04 STi Silver that is originally from Ontario that had 200,000 kms, that he has listed with less mileage, also claiming the original owner and $7000 higher than what he bought it for in the fall.

I started to compile a list of the vehicles he has for sale at the moment and some previous shady sales. All of the cars seem to have very very low KM's. I will be forwarding this information to the police as soon as time permits me to work out the kinks...

I have a feeling that a lot of these vehicles have had their odometer readings tampered with...it's too bad kijiji doesn't require a VIN# prior to posting.

The owner that had it in Varsity tried selling a 'hot' escort 9500ix last summer.
