Hello everyone! Our home is coming along really soon and I am thinking to replace the bulbs of our new house. I thought of going LED but I really don't have any experience with them; or seen anyone who has them. I know, though, they are pretty expensive compared to fluorescent lights.

Does anyone have any experience with them? Recommended for use? If so, where is the best place to purchase them?

Thank you! :)

I bought the LEDs from Costco to replace the halogen GU10's in my light fixtures in the kitchen. VERY happy with them. There's another thread by Rage2 where he replaced all the lights in his house with them. I've considered replacing the CFL's in my pot lights as well, but I can't justify the cost when the existing lights are still working. I don't think the cost/power savings is there from CFL to LED yet.

Thank you. I don't plan to replace all lights at once. Mainly, main floor first then 2nd level after.

I have LED lighting throughout the mainfloor of my house (30+ pot lights and some track lighting too). I find it a little dim vs. alternatives (I have 3 x 3W LED's) in cool white in the rooms and kitchen, and warm white in the hallways.

They definitely help offsetting electricity costs. But payback won't be for several years yet.

^This... I don't think there's any payback for a LOOOONG time going from CFL to LED. They're typically only a couple of watt difference, so if you're already outfitted with CFL's like me, doesn't make any sense at all. When they burn out, then I'll go LED, but until then it just doesn't make sense.

All the LEDs are made in China so I buy them in bulk on ebay for 10% of typical store cost :dunno:

(never had an issue with quality)

Costco has PAR20 LED bulbs for $17 bucks a pop. They're awesome and dimmable. If you know someone in BC, you can get them for $12 per or in QC for $7 per.

for pot lights these are awesome! very bright, dimmable, also comes in 4" and 5 or 6" and still look half decent. Plus i doubt you will ever change a bulb again. I have been recently putting these in alot of high end homes for customers

CFLs are nice if you enjoy the hospital look.

So, I'm taking a page out of revelations book. I've order 2 pairs of different bulbs from ebay. Both are 10W. One is the classic bulb shape, and the other is a cob style onmidirectional bulb which will be fine for fixtures where you can't see the bulb. Both are in the $8 price range. I'll post photos and a review with links when I get them. Hopefully, they'll work out well, and I can outfit the entire house for $120 :)
