New STI

Got this car on the weekend. Quickly took the spoiler off to see what it would look like.

What do you guys think on or off?

On. Everytime I think of STI, that obnoxious spoiler pops into my head first thing. It looks naked without it.


But for a clean subtle, non-attention seeking, I'd leave it off.

It looks like it's stubbier, if that makes any sense. I think it looks complete with the spoiler on. It gives it a more aggressive stance.

Also, I dont actually know if that generation uses torsion bars but if you take the spoiler off and don't change the torsion bars on the older ones, it causes the trunk to FLY open and will screw up the hinges in no time.

Yes it does fly open hard now so I keep my hand on it when I open it.

OK, so like me, you might think it's no big deal. Til the first few times you end up needing to open it from inside or are holding stuff of whatever. I guess, if you do leave it off, please replace the torsion bars. Should be 3 versions; no spoiler, wrx spoiler and sti spoiler.

Yeah this is temporary until I figure out what I want to do. Easy to take off and put back on.

out of curiousity how heavy is the spoiler? I'm guessing 10lbs.

on this gen I'd say leave it on...all the older sc00bs could run with out it easily. These IDK it's just the way the body is.

I think it looks better with it on. Without the wing it looks like you parked at a bad neighborhood one night. But that's just me :dunno:

No I just took the wing off. I just got the car on Friday. Haven't swapped with anyone, just wanted to see what it would look like. I covered the holes with blue tape before making any decisions :rofl:

I remember hearing the GD Subarus got alittle squirrelly at higher speed with no spoiler, not sure if that's the case with the newer ones... For that reason, I'd say keep in on!

Stock Height = Wing on

Lowered = Wing off


The lowered look of the car fits a clean truck lid. Stock height it looks odd without it. Nice car though!

I get bored of cars fast. This just happened to be a great deal this month so I jumped on it.

These don't come with gold wheels anymore. The charcoal is the stock wheel for the base STI.

The lip spoiler pic is being blocked at work, but i'm guessing it's the S206 lip spoiler from the Japanese version?

I just noticed that your STI doesn't have side markers on the mirrors. I didn't realize the base models were so stripped down.

I dont mind STI's at all the only thing that bugs me is the owners who dont utilize the AWD and winter drive them and slam the fuck out of a car that was seemingly meant for rally haha

Yeah. I haven't actually even used my sunroof once yet. Opened it the day I got it to test it out but not once since. Guess I should to remind me what I paid for.

I hate sunroofs, fog lights are useless to me too, I've had 2 WRXs with auto climate and they are pretty bad too. I prefer the simple manual climate in these cars. The BMW auto climate worked great though. The only thing I really miss or would want from that package is the HIDS which would be an easy add for me.

The base is pretty stripped down compared to the limited. Looking back I wouldn’t have changed my decision on buying the base but a sunroof would be nice in the summer.
