View Full Version : Kitchen Cabinet and Countertop Business Recommendations

I'm in the midst of an apartment reno and am looking for cabinet and countertop business recommendations.

Details:
U-shape kitchen, approximately 22 lineal feet
Two walls are ceiling height, the third is a counter height stub-wall that will have a ~12" breakfast bar extension.
Not looking for high-end, custom cabinets, but definitely don't want low-end trash either.
Good value and bang for the buck is the MO.
Since the design is simple, I would prefer a local cash and carry shop for the cabinets and an inhouse granite shop that can turn-around a basic countertop for a reasonable price.

Thanks

Action cabinet in the NE has some pretty good deals sometimes. Cash and carry. Everything is pretty much assembled too.

We did our laundry room with cabinets from there, they are as nice as our kitchen ones and we have no complaints so far.

Ikea. Laugh all you want, I've now done two kitchens with them, and the cabinets are much nicer than anything from Rona, etc, IMO.

I agree, Ikea is the place, went and shopped around prices were on average 40% more in any other shop, drawer technology at Ikea is incredible (by the way they will arrage countertop with thier cabinets). ANother thing, their system for hanging cabinets is great, one person can install wall cabinets. Worth checking (you can use their online kitchen design planner).

3rd, Ikea is great, much better quality than the crap the big box reno store carries. Most styles are perfect for condos too.

Yes Ikea is great for cabinets of standard sizes etc. Check out their website and plan your own kitchen.

Custom cabinets have a place for "odd" sized kitchens.

As for countertops. Hit up "The Rock Shop" -> http://rockshopgranite.com/index.html

Speak with Ryan. He did my kitchen with 30mm thick LG Viatera Quartz at a very resonable cost.

I also agree Ikea is a good way to go. I was super skeptical because of how easily all their other furniture breaks. I've broken almost everything I've bought from there. The cabinets doors are nice and heavy and thats what counts. They have a 25 year warranty too.

+1 for Ikea as well, my parents re-did their kitchen with Ikea cabinets and they are top notch quality/look/feel wise.

Check out The Granite Guys, they do all in-house cutting and even offer 2cm thick if you want a cheaper option (though 3cm looks better and is more durable from my understanding). Tammy is awesome to deal with there.

Stone Selection has some incredible rock in their shop which gets updated quite often. But here you're paying for premium rock which may not be what you're after. He carries Antolini stuff mainly.

I chose Stone Master Granite (http://stonemastergranite.com/) for the granite countertop and am very happy with the results. I dealt with Ray and found him very helpful and pleasant. The template and installation crew were also good guys. Turnaround time from template to install was two weeks.

I'll get a couple of pictures up soon.
