Hey guys,

So I did a search, but to no avail. Here's the situation:

-I am from Calgary, and I still have my car registered & insured in Alberta, on an Alberta drivers license.
-I am going to school in California
-I own a motorcycle, currently located in Calgary, with Canadian insurance & registration
-I want the motorcycle down here, so I am considering riding it down here.

Another option I'm looking at is buying a US motorcycle. Would it be possible to register it without needing to get a California drivers license? And if I do need to get a cali DL, does that mean I can't have my Canadian car any more?

Sorry for the confusing questions and stuff. The moral of the story is that I want a bike down here!

Thanks guys,

B

Are you younger than 23? If so just ride it with AB plates and insurance on it.

Uhhhh, no. If you take an AB vehicle (car or bike) and have it in the US for more than six months the insurance may be void (policy specific). Registration isn't a problem but that's only half the issue.
However, with OP being a full time student, he can keep his AB registration & insurance and is not subject to the six month limits as long as he is currently enrolled in a post secondary school full time.

Edit, misread your response MB. Yeah insurance I have no idea about, but I assumed you would clear it with your policy issuer before moving your car down there.
