I have a 99.5 MK 4 Jetta. I am looking for maybe a little more power. I already have catback exhaust, synthetic oil, and short ram intake.

What would you guys suggest to get a little more power but for cheap money (ie. no swapping, turbo, or 2.0 litre insults)

Also how much would putting 18 inch rims on it effect the speed and power of my car.

Camshaft and chip is pretty much your only option. The diffrence with the 18s will be minimal. You may feel a slight decrease in acceleration but if you are upgrading from stock the sport wheels will make up for it with the extra grip. The most difference you'll feel is stopping if they are heavy.

Do suspension before rims.

How does going to a larger wheel Increase grip???? the flex in the wheel it's self is so minimal that you get more slppyness in the u-joints of the steering colume. What actual increase grip is a sticky tire. Or if you choose a tire with a way stiffer side wall. If larger wheels increased grip the why do F1 cars run 13" wheels????

I said if you go from stock to sport. If you go from an all season 195/65/15 to say a 215/40/18 Pirelli or even a cheaper performance rubber like Kuhmo theres a HUGE difference in grip. Less sidewall flex also.

see your talking to different things first you talk about going from stock to sport wheels, as far as I know wheels and tires are different!!

meh on the 18's. pricy and heavy. They will actually slow the car down (more rotating mass, the worst kind! haha). you may not really notice it too much, but it will happen. Now in cornering, it will feel better but thats due to tires. Get some azenis sports for you stock wheels and you will get the cornering without the strait line speed reduction. More power and huge rims are actually counter intuitive.

Some of you mentioned a new camshaft. What do you think about the Neuspeed ones?

Man so much I want to buy:
Chip = $400.00
Camshaft = $300.00
Golf Irons = $1200.00
Golf Driver = $550.00
Gun to kill myself and end it all = $200.00 :thumbsup:

Dont buy the Neuspeed chip, it blows ass.

Go on the neuspeed site and buy the 2.0L supercharger and call it a day. that link I posted wont link to the actual page for some reason.

honkeybronx, i think u should keep to the stock wheels and keep up with driving really slow to piss people off :thumbsup: and also a :thumbsup: for the neuspeed camshaft.

I say just go for the cam (check out Autotech) and go with the 18s. Who cares about unsprung weight and all that. You're not racing the car. If you take it to the track I would agree but come on, you won't even notice the difference on the street. And anything less than 17 looks small on the MKIVs in my opinon. 18 are just perfect. But do suspension too. So save the money by leaving the engine fairly stock and spend it on the wheels/suspension and you'll have one sick jetta!
:thumbsup: :thumbsup:

I have to agree with maximus, if you were worried about speed to wouldn't have bought a 2.0 in the first place. Make your car look sick, MKIV Jettas look like cartoon cars with big wheels and a nice drop.

shadapa u face!!! How about proxies RA-1's haha. Its the re-enforced side wall that gets you. But i doubt the tires would add as much weight as an extra 3 inches of diameter and probably 2.5 inches of width from an 18" wheel. Thanks for making me look foolish though
