Got offered a job flying for a company in another province that I couldn't pass up. They supply me with a condo where I'm going, so I decided to pack everything up and store it, live with the minimum for a couple years.

About a month back I posted requesting a good car storage facility for my Mazda. I needed somewhere that I could leave the car secure for upwards of 2-3 years, did not feel comfortable renting a garage. Was directed to Specialty Auto Storage www.specautostorage.ca down in DeWinton.

Had the car towed down there today, there is no engine or transmission in the car (if you'll remember my build thread.) Had to remove the bumper to get it onto the truck, but off it went:

David from Spec Auto was very helpful in arranging everything, hooked me up with a flat deck from Coventry to his facility in DeWinton for $100.

I couldn't follow the car down there, but I arrived about an hour later and my car was outside ready for me to go over it and push it into the storage facility. Put the bumper back on, and got the car pushed inside. The facility is immaculate! Among the rides there, were LITERALLY everything from a Dodge Caravan, to a Delorean with 74 original miles on it. As in 0000074 total miles. Hasn't even had a quarter tank of gas run through it in 25 years!

Once my car was inside and secure, David took the time to give me a tour of the facility. There is a full mechanical shop and detail bay in front, and out back I was blown away, words can not describe it... Audi R8's, Carerra GT's, Ford GT's, a Ferarri F40 with less than 7,000Km on it, GT3's, a RUF 911, countless Vipers, Vette's AMG's, Ferraris, Lambos, Bently, Aston Martin, you name it. The other side of the spectrum held everything from a 1941 Mercury, to all original Hemi Challengers, to a "Rover" station wagon, completely restored. Triumphs, MG's, Mustangs, countless Corvettes, Boxsters, literally you name it, it was there. Yep, even a Testarossa so mint, the original tires still had the nubbies on them. I had no idea vehicles like those even existed, much less right under our nose in Calgary.

Over 560 vehicles are in his care, my Mazda was definitely on the low end of the totem pole there. There are 3 separate warehouses, each designed for either long term or short term storage, etc. All are two-tiered, I believe he said he had over 150 hoists for vehicles in there. The attention to detail is fantastic. All hoists have solid bottoms, so no oil or fluids will drip down. The floors are shiny and clean, and the dust is next to zero. All are climate controlled, locked behind keypad coded doors, with full 24/7 video surveillance and alarms on the facility.

The cost for one year of storage is $1050, or $220/mo. Obviously the year contract is a much better deal. You can access you vehicle at anytime provided you give sufficient notice. He is extremely professional, and with over $35,000,000 worth of vehicles in his care, I felt extremely safe leaving my car there.

I didn't take any photos, but here are a few from his website:

All in all, it was a fantastic experience seeing the vehicles down there, and I felt extremely comfortable leaving my car there for a few years. He has some vehicles that have been in his care since he started the operation in 1997, and thousands of satisfied customers since then. I would not hesitate to recommend Specialty Auto Storage to anyone looking for a short or long term storage location for their vehicle.

It's nice of you to post your experience but don't you think what you just posted a little too descriptive?

How so? All of the photos are from the website, and most of the vehicles I described can be seen in said photos.

That is wicked, I can't beleive it is less than 100$ a month!

I actually commented on that to David, and he explained that he wanted to make it accessible to everyone. That's the reason he is able to fill his facility to its 560 car capacity on a regular basis. Doesn't take much math to figure out that even at $1050/yr with that many vehicles he can still remain profitable.

Totally forgot about david, and assumed it'd be big $

he's got a super facility, he's absolutely ocd on maintenance - and often found vacuuming...

(No dont work for him, but had met him in my previous endeavours)
