Nice Bok :D

I honestly still need to go through all my comics (610+ books, woot -__-) and compare to the guest list XD

Friday is going to be my mad dash to the tables to pore through the boxes for hard-to-find back issues :P Then it's off to the artists tables and then, Sat/Sun panels and more casual book searches, get Dinklage/Headey to sign my Game of Thrones BR boxes, and such.

I already have $320 worth of commissions lined up. Go Go Gadget Internet! :D

All i need/looking for:

ASM: 649, 654, 657 and 678 - Venon MJ Variant. I know the MJ variant is $$$.

USM: 21 and 23

Get those then i will have 300-700 ASM and 1-133 USM :D

ASM 678 V/MJ variant: I'm willing to bet that one of the vendors would have it, but it would be in their "high value" pile that you have to ask to see. Strike up a convo with the floor attendant for the vendor when it's slow-ish, and ask. It never hurts to ask.

Just did a quick price lookup. Fuck me that's an expensive book, $300 in 8.0+ condition o_O.

I got my UXM 135 by asking to see a high value vendor pile at the Comic and Toy fair held each year at the Stampeders club (it's kinda like a one room mini comic con). It's valued at $90+ in 9.0 or better mint, mine is probably 9.2-9.5 (it's damned near FLAWLESS, only a minor ink bleed on the first internal page). I negotiated it down to $25 :O

Upper left (still the absolute centerpiece of my collection, the single best Dark Phoenix cover they made. Just wish I could get Byrne/Claremont to sign it then send it off for valuation and clamshell :D):

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/awesome.jpg

EDIT:

And as you are a ASM fan...

http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/presigned.jpg

(yes, all are signed, and M34 (upper right) has Campbell, Straczynski and Romita Jr signatures)

Yeah dude - ASM 678 MJ variant is $$$. There's one on ebay right now 9.4 buy it now for 837.xx . I saw one earlier this week go for 1100.00 and one other one for $570, crazy!!!

The ASM 700 Ditko variant is my centre piece for now, CGC'ed in 9.0+ shape is crazy $$$ too. Saw one a few weeks aog asking $3k cgc'ed at 9.8 - asking way too much though. There's some 9.8's for $1200 right now. But even a 7.0 is going for $700.00 haha. Crazy!!! Another Dimension had the 2 of the Ditko variants for sale - $1000.00 a piece, no clam shell.

I also have the both the Martin ASM variants as well as the Copiel and Ramos variant, will get pics for you tonight. Gonna take those for sigs and cgc too.

Your ASM and Xmen all signed...

You have to have the dark phoenix UM signed and cgc'ed dude!!! At the very least clam shelled hehe.

Sweet collection btw :bigpimp:

I was a huge ASM collector back in the day...I think I have somewhere around 150 issues from somewhere in the mid-200's up into the early 400's.

I should dig out the boxes and go through them haha.

Well, those are only a few of my "valuables." I consider 91 of my books to be of value (either personal, sentimental, or collectible), and according to http://comicbookrealm.com/ , that part of my collection is worth ~$900

I just wish I could link my pile from CBR to here :|

EDIT: Try clicking this: http://comicbookrealm.com/vagabond142/collection

The prices on there get wonky sometime because it has an auto-parse feature that checks the price against ebay listings, personal listings using CBR's internal trade/sell tools, etc... a better judge of overall value is the Overstreet Price Guide.

Wow that's a slick collection.

I'm really loving the DC new 52 stuff. I see you're following Catwoman as well, that is one amazing series. I've just been reading those in TPB format, so i'm waiting for Volume 3 to be released. I'm also following Batgirl as well, same deal but fo Volume 2. JLA.....great art but story line is weak in my opinion. I just finished reading Batman: Detective Comics Volume 1 -  , freaking amazing. Batman of course is always pimp. You follow the whole death in the family serires?

New Marvel Now stuff is pretty good too. I love the new avengers, avengers, superior spiderman, age of ultron, uncanny xmen, the new xmen, guardians of the galaxy, captain marvel and nova. i read young avengers and it made me wanna barf. Really curious as to what's gonn ahappen with the whole age of ultron storyline...

Wish both Marvel and DC would release the softcover trades sooner.

I'm also folliwng the transformers series from IDW. Not the regeneration 1 stuff, just everything else. Pretty good thus far...but i think the fools writing that stuff are turning the bots too "human". Some of the newer stuff uses dates like "6 months ago - iacon" blah blah. Supposed to be "cycles" for example.

:bigpimp: It's almost certainly going to grow this weekend. Looking to score some Witchblades, fill out Fathom Vol 1, and fill out Rogue Vol 3 (only need 7 and 8!). And of course, any comics of opportunity, I have half my comic con budget set aside for getting some very rare/super rare books, if I find any.

I don't collect the ENTIRE new 52, so I only caught the Catwoman, Birds of Prey, Suicide Squad side of things. I actually don't collect Batman D: Just too many books out (I already get confused with how many X-men series there are out D: ). But yeah, the return of the Joker and the death of Robin was a big ol wham bam thank you ma'am story. Also, if you have the Joker flipface covers... those are ALREADY considered collectible and are demanding $12+ an issue.

I'm still trying to figure out which issues to collect to get the whole Age of Ultron AND X-Termination storylines... I may honestly wait for the companion TPB to come out and collect that way.

I think my favorite series atm is a tie between All-New X-Men and Uncanny Avengers. They're ALL good (Uncanny X-Men is dark as all fuck, love it), but some just shine above the others.

Yeah i have all those diecut covers for the death in the family series. Catwoman and Batgirl were the toughest to obtain. Great storyline btw!!!

Age of Ultron:

AU #1-10
F4 #5AU
SSM #6Au
AA #14AU-15AU
W&Xmen # 27AU
Ultron #1U
UA #8AU
FD #4Au

There's also 2 epilogues.

Not everythings been released yet, I think completion in June 2013. Hank Pym...dude, you have to read Age of Ultron.

I didn't know all new xmen and uncanny avengers tied in together? I know all new xmen and uncanny xmen tie completely. I will have to pick up uncanny avengers if that is the case!!!

Yep :hijack: sry haha

Okay... I blame Bok for all this.... I went through my two valuables boxes and picked out the most valuable comics I own, as well as all the signed ones I own XD t(^^ t) to Bok for making me waste 2 hours (productively wasted, but wasted nonetheless :P )

-AMS 34: JMS, Romita Jr, Campbell.
-AMS 32: JMS, Campbell.
-BoP 100: Gail Simone (sentimental value).
-Power Girl TPB: Signed multiple times inside by Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/values1_zpsd7a235d2.jpg

Having a popular artist as a friend is cool. Omar Dogan signed: Vampi Vicious 1, Xin: Journey 1-3
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/values2_zpsa9631b4d.jpg

-Witchblade 56 (to which I also own an original page from, page 19) signed by Francis Manapul.
-Street Fighter Legends: Ibuki, signed by Omar Dogan. (This is a special cover, as it was NEVER sold in stores or through direct pulls. It was only available at San Diego Comic Con, and only for 2011. Because I know Omar, when I commissioned a piece from him, he threw this in as a bonus.)
-X-Men 206 Variant Cover, signed by Campbell and Bachalo (!!).
-Uncanny X-Men 510 rare variant, signed by Campbell (without the sig, 8.0+, it's $30. With sig, probably closer to $100)
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/values3_zpsee447d13.jpg

Another cool thing about knowing Omar... I got a very rare item: one of a limited set of promo art cards for his artist-owned and produced comic. One of only a handful (I think it's something like 10 or so) that are signed by the artist. I can't even guess the value, but to a Dogan/UDON collector, easily in the $200+ range
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/values3a_zps3e0d9516.jpg

-Avengers Annual #10. The first appearance, anywhere, of Rogue in the Marvel universe
-Uncanny X-Men 135. Need I say any more?
-Justice Society of America: Classified #4. Signed by Amanda Connor and Jimmy Palmiotti
-Uncanny X-Men #244. First appearance, anywhere, of Jubilee.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/values4_zps520eb718.jpg

-Witchblade Origin Special: American Entertainment Exclusive. Rare.
-Witchblade #1 Sketch edition ("Black and White Classics"). Rare.
-Batman: Streets of Gotham #9. Signed by Dustin Nguyen
-Fathom: Swimsuit Special 1999. Rare.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/values5_zps41e1aec6.jpg

-Tomb Raider 1/2 Wizard Special promotional edition. Very rare. Edition was only available for a very limited time from people that subscribe to Wizard. Comes with special sleeve and board, and a certificate of authenticity inside the book. Sleeve is artifact grade, hence why I left the comic in there.
-Uncanny X-Men 158. First appearance of Rogue in the mainstream comics, as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants... and she wears a plaid skirt half the time o_O

How the hell or when the hell did you get Amanda Connors to sign her work? I love her art!!!

I just bought her sequential art book. Also i'm reading the DC Death and Return of Superman collection right now, just thought you'd want to see it :D. 1000+ pages!!!

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c103/Stinky_tofu/IMG-20130425-00405_zps755f046e.jpg (http://s26.photobucket.com/user/Stinky_tofu/media/IMG-20130425-00405_zps755f046e.jpg.html)

I'll open up my boxes tomorrow or will try to and grab pics of some of my collection for you.

And yes...artist corner looks prime this year!!!

noob question but why is that edition worth so much?

also to Vagabond and Bok, out of curiosity but do you guys buy the comics mainly for collection or do you guys read it first?

Uncanny X-Men 135 is worth so much because: It is "the fight" that the Dark Phoenix run was hinting at for so long, when Jean Grey fully becomes Dark Phoenix and layeths the smacketh downeth on the entire X-Men.... before fucking off into space and pretty much eating a star for food.

It's also valuable because the cover is widely regarded as the best of the entire Dark Phoenix run... other DP run comics get $30-$50 in value, but 135 is the "holy grail" of Dark Phoenix covers.

As to my collection: anything post 2010 is read, then bag and board, then into my long boxes for storage. Anything pre-2010, is usually for collection. I collect Fathom and Witchblade mostly for the collectible value, but there is an undercurrent of rebuilding my collection that was stolen (I had Witchblade 1-74, and Fathom volumes 1 and 2 stolen from the back of my car when I was moving. Hint: Never label your moving boxes "Comic Books" if you are going to let them out of your sight for more than 1 minute)

^ah that makes sense then, always wanted to get into the Marvel/DC world but too lazy/busy to read all of them although have always been fascinated by the superheroes.

I collect mangas that I like to read but with those, you know that they don't increase in value lol

I buy for both. I collect because I swear I have OCD and I have to have everything haha, but i also enjoy collecting and hunting for variants and rare issues. Not in it to make money, realistically I don't think I'd sell my collection. I've been collecting since I was in grade 7, so like 12 years old. I'm 36 now hahaha and still collecting. So 24 years now...imagine how many long boxes if have!!!. I do also read each one, unless it's a variant cover, in which case I most likely have the variant and the regular cover so I read the the regular cover and bag and tag the variant. Comics are MY soap operas but with less sex and better stories and killings hahaha.

And just to let you know....now is the THE best time to get into DC and Marvel series. DC ended and completely restarted their WHOLE series with the new 52 line, most of it is around issue 19 now, so about 1.5 years in. The trade paperbacks are available now too, so super easy to catch up and there are lots of back issues you can pick up too. DC story lines are all new, so it isn't like you're getting into DC's action comics at issue 900+, which btw started their run in 1938....so imagine how many back issues there are to catch up on!!!!

Marvel did the same thing with their new Marvel Now line, and most of it is around issue 6, so say...6-8 months in. Very easy to get in to and start up now too, most of the storylines are new or very easy to get into for the Marvel Now stuff. Amazing Spiderman ended I think in Dec 2012 or Jan 2013 and was replaced with Superior Spiderman, which I think is roughly bi-weekly, so their about issue 10 now iirc, great storyline and easy to get into as well. I would totally jump onboard now.

I can give you reviews on what I've read and liked so far too.

Stjepan Šejić finds on the day:
-Robyn Hood #1, they were giving them out for free
-Ravine, Stjepan's artist-owned series
-Grimm Fairy Tales: The Dream Eater Saga: Inferno #11. This cover is a "fun" cover because it has Stjepan's recurring theme of a short haired redhead on it. It's one of his signature art stylizations.
http://i276.photobucket.com/albums/kk13/Vagabond142/day1haul6_zps8c64bf12.jpg

The biggest finds on the day are definitely the Wizard World VIP Fathom and Uncanny X-Men #136 in perfect condition.

I also picked up some prints and paid for a couple of commissions I had arranged before the Con... so half my con budget just took a flying leap out the window XD

EDIT: Just realized I missed counting one of the stacks of comics I got, as I put it aside when I got home and promptly forgot about it. I will update the pictures tonight :)

I would like to meet Stan Lee, but I really have no desire to get his autograph on a comic book.

It seems like every second book these days is signed by him just due to how many public signing appearances he does on a yearly basis.

You can do that. All you need to do when you go up to where you pay if you want stuff signed is say "I just want to say hi and shake his hand," and they go "sure, go ahead." In fact, it helps make the line move that little bit faster so I think they kind of appreciate it.

I did that this year at his last signing session on Saturday, and I made sure it was nearer the end of his appearance so that I wouldn't cut paying people who actually wanted signatures. I said "thanks for all you've done for comics, and thanks for the X-Men," and he said "you're welcome!" :)

A lot of media stars are okay with it too. I didn't get anything signed by Sylvester McCoy, but it was still awesome to have a 5 minute chat with him about his favorite moments in The Hobbit and Doctor Who. Guy also has an INSANE sense of style, with pinstripe jacket over vest over shirt and tie, and his Doctor Who hat at a jaunty angle. Something about the British, they can dress absolutely mad, and make it work XD

Forgot to mention, my collection has been updated to reflect my current list. There are a couple of issues that the CBR can't find, however this is 99% accurate as to my collection

I'm really open about my collection, if you want to see the cover of a specific issue, just go ahead and ask. I don't have many very rares, but I do have a lot of uncommons and some rares, and a fuckton of commons :D
