Hey,

I have a dilemma,

lets say you have 2 cars they are the EXACT same, colour year, options, condition, specs ect, ect, EXCEPT one has 40,000km on it and the other has 60,000 on it.

my question is how do you determine the price per KM all things else being equal?

like is it 5 cents a km?

to me it makes sense that the one with the lower KM be more expensive, but by how much?

is there a general formula to follow or rule ?

thanks

Simon

There is no formula or general rule. It all depends on the condition of the car. I would rather buy the higher mileage car if it had every service record from the time of purchase if the other one didn't. Things like exterior condition, interior condition, tires, breaks, etc all come into play when determining price.

Looks at price difference online for km and go from there.

What's the price of each?
Private or dealer sales?

CBB may be able to give a differential if you want to base on that.

But every car is different when it comes to cost of mileage. It all depends on if there are tons of them on the market or not.

But 20K usually isn't that big of a difference unless it's < 2 to 3 years old.

Try using this link:

VMR Canada (http://www.vmrcanada.com/canada_makes.htm)

My brother in law works in sales at a dealership here in Calgary and they use this as a guideline for advertized price on trade ins.
