So we have insurance monies to fully replace our 12x20 patio roof - this patio is fully enclosed on all sides (house on east and south side, window wall on north side, garage on west side, storm door at ne corner and open door to back yard on SW corner). Current roof structure is 2 foot wide aluminum panels separated by 8" wide extruded plastic panels that allow some light in -at least one of the plastic panels was holed in last year's big NW hail storm and all aluminum panels are dented.

Fast forward to now and we are looking at 8mm polycarbonate panels for the whole roof - will re-use current support structure as it is very sound, but will probably add in extra cross bracing to account for roof load (snow).

So the questions/concerns are...

1: Do any beyonders have any experience with this type of roofing material - more specifically, we'll be using 4 foot by 12 foot smoked gray 8mm thick panels. Pitch will be at best 3% into an existing drain channel.

2: We have both a small hot tub and a barbecue in this area - don't believe either (especially the BBQ) produce enough heat at the roof level (9 feet) to be a concern.

3: Will this new roof create excess summer heat in our patio even though it is a product that repels all UV and has good solar blocking capabilities?

A brighter patio is one of the main reasons for considering this type of patio roof cover and I suspect it's snow load capabilities will be very similar to the aluminum/plastic that is up there right now - anyhow, any insights would be appreciated.
