Reading the good old reliable Calgary Sun today and the weather mongers are saying we are in for a higher than usual amount of hail and storms this summer. Pros are that we are spposed to get more heat and sun but the storms are supposed to be worse than expected. If the past few summers are any indication, I would be inclined to believe it.

I had lots of friends cars take quite the beat down last summer so keep the blankets handy and the garages clear!

A Summer beater and a winter beater eh? haha.

Do any of you guys keep a tarp/blanket in your car for this reason?

No, but I currently don't have a car that's special enough to cover, lol. (well, not one that's road worthy yet anyways)

isnt that more dangerous if hails hit the owner of the vehicle.

I just run out and lay on the hood if it starts hailing hard.

Blankeys saved my car an estimated $5000-10000 in hail damage last summer.

The Calgary Sun is predicting long term weather now? Neato.

You can't hide from the wrath of god but you can get reimbursed by insurance company.

Must not have been any other news worthy of fear-mongering today.

lol. Fucking bring it.
If my car is written off, I'm assuming it's fate to buy a new car this year.

absolutely they work. If it is for in a car cover, get some foam instead, people use blankets for portability. For a car cover, get some full front to back and side to side protection.

Blankets rarely cover enough, and for the bigger hail, unless you are using a duvet, won't make much difference.

The only parts of my car that are metal are my hood and
rear quarters. The rest of my Z is made from chopped fiberglass/
poly resin. I've been through hail storms with no damage..but I
don't like to push it as you can still get paint chips etc.

Now that I think of it, I have a mint moving blankie
at my place. I should pop it into my trunk just in case!

Garages are fine for the cars, but what about the garage itself?

I just had the entire roof of my house, all the siding, and a broken window replaced from the storms last year - I better not have to go through all that crap again this summer.

I can attest to blankets saving your car from hail, I live in the Hamptons and had three quilts on my car last summer when the storm hit, and I only had a $1700 claim from insurance from hail, if I didn't have blankets I would have been looking at $10000+ in paint and body repair judging by my neighbors claims on their cars.

Lets hope not because if we keep getting big hailstorms each year like the past few years.
House and auto insurance will go no where but up up up! :drama:

Tomco said not to worry about it, and the predictions are surely wrong. :)

I figured that was what the thread was about ;) i think tomco's got a booboo - so it'll be a massive year; until he's 100% then it'll dry up.

did you guys see the texas hail from wed? Baseball -> grapefruit

Judging by this past weekends forecast, I'm suggesting that you can leave your cars and your fine crystal collections out in the open this summer.

Awesome, I could use another car written off by hail.

How do you guys keep the blanket from blowing off your car?

In my neighborhood, no-one got hit by hail for the last 8 years. Does hail only hit certain parts of the city or were we just lucky?

Generally its worst in the NW

34 years in Calgary and last year's hail at our place in central NW was the biggest I've seen here. We collected multiple golf ball sized pieces and the adjuster figured that a baseball sized piece or larger holed our patio roof. I have seen bigger in Medicine Hat in the 70's - softball sized that bounced back up about 2-3 feet after hitting my grandparent's lawn.

Last summer's hail...
