The record for the top speed reached on a mountain bike has been broken by cyclist Fran¨ois Gissy on a track near Mulhouse in eastern France. The mountain bike is powered by hydrogen peroxide and reaches speeds of 163mph. Although Gissy beat the previous mountain bike record, he narrowly missed the overall cycling speed record of 167mph set by 50-year-old Dutch cyclist Fred Rompelberg in 1995. Rompelberg achieved this speed by riding in the slipstream of a dragster

And to think I looked at the photo from Cos and for a moment thought "I could build that, it would be cool". On second thought, I once scabbed up real bad flying off the back of a go cart and got my shirt caught on an exposed bolt. Dragged a bit too far for my personal liking. I'll take a pass but toss some $$$$ into a pot for someone else to give it a shot.
