View Full Version : Anybody in town do leather seat "decaling"?

Hey guys, I'm restoring this vintage Honda dirt bike, and would like to get a seat reupholstered. The vinyl is cracking, which isn't too surprising for a 31 year old bike. After its redone in real leather, I was hoping to retain the "Honda" on the back and the big "XL" on the sides.
I don't know if it's airbrushed on or what, but is there any place that can copy the lettering exactly and put it on the newly redone seat?

I don't mind shipping the seat elsewhere in southern Alberta if need be.
Huge thanks for reading this and offering any help you can. :)

what happened to the modified route?

but that just looks like vinyl paint... i'd get a paint mask cut and just paint it if you go that route

but personally i'd do the seat that honda should have done... real leather, ribbed pattern and stitch out the "XL" and "honda"

Best place in town for that stuff is Cascade Vans.

Yeah I am planning on modding it, but I also want to keep all the OEM parts shelved, and restored where as their ready to put back on should I decide to return it to bone stock. I dont want a full on mod bike, since its in almost showroom condition as is, and just customizing every last part on it well past the point of return isn't my goal. Perhaps at some point if I ever get tired of it, I can put it back to stock and leave it in my living room as an art piece.

The front and rear end I plan on changing, and a few other minor bolt ons, but as you can see its not exactly the bike I want to gut, mod then make unreconizable from stock.

If it was a shit beat beater bike with loads of stuff broken, mangled or missing it would be a different story, but....
this is way too nice to mod for an all original 1982 dirtbike.

I would say cascade vans also I got some tweed work when I had my s10 and they did great work but they are pretty pricey

That's Vinyl, not leather. The factory logos are silk screened on.

Honestly, don't do it. Go online and buy yourself a genuine cover that already has it on.

This is my fat cat with it "stitched on" it was the same font, same size everything, but just doesn't look the same. Or you can save a bunch of money, spend 50 bucks online and have it look awesome.

I actually bought one already for that bike, for when I inevitably get too close with the power washer, or drop it in a weird place.

1982, made the same year I was haha. No the '82's were the first year with that pro-link rear (mono shock) suspension, the gas tank and a fair bit of other shit like the body work is all different too. I think from 77-81 they were that old style then mine went from 82-86 or 87. Apparently mine shares a lot of parts from the XL/XR600 as well, but its hard to say for sure.

Thanks for the link on the seat cover, ill check it out now.
Edit: wow thanks Eric, supper is on me next beyond meet, that's awesome!
Sweet Ill order that tomorrow.

still think you should reconsider the non-frame modifying...

this shop in spain does just awesome bikes, and they even did an XR600, im sure yours stripped down could be similar

^ Sweet. Thanks Eric!

Im not at all opposed to changing it up, I just want to have all the original parts restored and set aside should I decide to put it back to stock. If I take a grinder to the frame and just *totally* alter the bike, that'll never happen.

Thanks man, I'll check out the link now. Yeah changing the tank, and all the other parts such as the front & rear end are whats on my mind. Too bad we dont have many places that do bike wrecking in town. Since sizing up the front end rear end would be so much easier. :dunno:
