Well it rolls around every year...

http://www.homedepot.ca/product/premium-series-9x7-2000sp/958345

179$ for a 9x7 garage door - it's not the best, it's not the fanciest... But it goes up and down.

I've installed a few of these for beyonders - they're not too bad.

But seriously - my cost on a (albeit better quality) 9x7 is like 3x more. I'm probably going to go grab a pair...

Damn that's so cheap. I need a couple of doors too.

Yeah; they're friggin cheap... Only R6.5 (usual 'lower end' is R9) and thin - but for alley doors or flips... Can't beat that price.

Voodoo - could be arranged...

sugarphreak - but of course, doors pretty much take it or leave it as is; I've read of funkyness with clopay doors taking paint; and seen one picture where the full basecoat came off when painted (as in you got to see bare zinc coating beneath where paint once was)

Where's a good place to look for fancier singles? I need you to replace mine this summer.

Depends on what your after; fancy can go a variety of ways... From wood to fiberglass, to carriage style, to glass; I've seen some pretty awesome doors lately created from the most basic contemporary door faces - just by playing with where the glass is installed; and some fancy hardware.

I like being independent these days, I don't have to bite my tongue and suggest something that might not be appropriate... 17 manufacturers to choose from :) each manufacturer and product line is a bit different.

What's a good R value for a garage door? (without spending $5000 on each one lol)

Usual builder grade (ie not expensive) is R8 - R10 it's still a complete clusterf*ck on how they actually measure that... R12-14 steps you up about 30% R16 is pretty close to double what an R8 costs.

Everyone was supposed to be doing full 8x7 door tests, but some manufacturers didn't like how that worked out - so they're still touting their R ratings from the 1sqft "perfect sample".

Replacing my R1(ish) 9x8 with a claimed R10 rated door - with electric baseboard heat, was about 30$/month in electric savings for my garage.

Now the funny part is U value is really the concern (air infiltration) but very few manufacturers will put a number to that.

Lowes has that well reviewed whisper drive (my personal favorite for a normal trolley style opener) on for 179$ this weekend

And if RFD is correct - the 16x7 clopay goes on sale on June 13th - 607.75$ (Yes I can install those too)

Like before, quality is low, but - if you need a stupid cheap double door...

Doh!

Those 9x7's are now 152.15 (additional 15% off) - 4 in stock at tuscany, 5 at beacon hill, 2 @ shawnessy.

Wow, these would probably be a great upgrade from 40 year old steel un-insulated doors! I may have to pick a couple up and get a Beyonder to quote install!

When it comes to anything involving garage doors, no beyonder needs to be looking past AndyL. A consummate professional :D

I still need my spring replaced this summer, Andy. Are you booking into July or August yet?
