I need some help from those more qualified than I am. A friend of mine is getting married this summer and I have purchased some really nice martini glasses for them. I want to get them a good bottle of gin to go with it, but I have NO clue when it comes to gin.

So I'd love your suggestions guys! Nothing way too expensive, as the glasses were quite pricey, but something good :)

Thanks :)

Hendricks. Usually in stock at Liquor Depot beside Shoppers.

Edit: As a mod, should you know to search first?

Depends on what kind of gin you like. The traditionalists prefer a classic gin and tonic garnished with a cucumber slice and Hendrick's is good with that. I prefer a gin and soda with lime so I go for Tangueray 10.

AThery are just different styles of gin.

My favourite is Bombay Sapphire. I'm quite a heavy gin drinker and I rarely deviate from Bombay. Makes a nice gift too as the bottle looks pretty sharp.

Bombay Sapphire is the only one I know about, but probably because it's nothing 'exclusive'?

Im not a big gin drinker anymore but I decided to give Aviation Gin a chance and it is really good. I used to be partial to Tanqueray 10, but Aviation Gin is definitely my new favorite! It is a definite must-try.

I love Bombay as well, but as a gift, I'd use Hendricks as it's not so commonly seen.

I drink Sapphire most frequently, but Tanq Ten is very nice, and Hendricks is excellent.

At Christmas, I got the chance to try Gambit Gin from Lucky Bastard Distillers based in Saskatoon. Very good gin, nice and dry, uses Saskatoon berries as a minor ingredient but they are barely detectable. I would place it above Tanqueray #10. Don't think it's available here in town, though.

I think if it's for a gift you should really try to find something unique more than "highly rated"... The couple can (and probably does) buy any of the mentioned gins whenever they want. If you want the gift to stand out go for a top shelf ($100+) bottle of something rare. Of course, I'm a whisky guy so that's easy to say - no idea what the gin market's like.

Tanqueray Rangpur IMO is the best mixing gin. With soda or mixes I don't think it can be beat.

If you bought the Martini glasses because they like Martinis then I would suggest going with a dry gin like Hendricks or G'Vine as they compliment Martinis very well.

The Botanist is a great gin that can go solo or mixed with tonic/soda - May want to check out Zyn in Inglewood as they have a great selection and staff that could answer more intricate questions.

I'm a Gin fan (>26 different bottles now on the shelf) and I recently opened the Vicotria Gin and really enjoyed it.

You can find it at Willow Park. Hand crafted on Vancouver Island so makes for a good gift as well imo.
