I like the retro idea, should be awesome when it's done. The guy in this video kind of has the same idea: http://vimeo.com/57909173

Cool man, I like where you're going with this project. It's going to be a lot of work, you'll contemplate quitting at times to. But it's all worth it when it starts to come together. I'm nearing the end of my project with most of the bull work done. I have the same size space to work with except higher ceilings. So I've been working off scaffold for pretty much the whole job. I gutted mine right down to the studs and redid everything. Here's where I'm at now.

Good luck!

That looks amazing! How much does a ceiling mounted furnace like that cost?

Sounds like a neat idea (the retro speed shop). My only piece of advice is that you can never have too much light.

Can you build an enclosure for the compressor for noise mitigation?

The only think I'd do different is radiant instead of forced air. Otherwise looks great.

I need to move out into the country so I can build the kind of garage I want. Probably also winning the lottery is the only way to make it happen before i'm 70 though lol.

If you're thinking about installing a wifi thermostat for your furnace make sure he runs a common wire. I'm using a Nest to control my furnace and it's wicked. But I forgot to install a common wire and ended up doing some drywall patching.

I don't plan on running the furnace constantly during the winter. But being able to warm up the shop from the comfort of my couch or on the way home from work via iphone is pretty convenient.

Thanks man, it's so crazy right now. I'm working like an animal to try and get the garage to a somewhat finished state before the wedding. We plan on having a brunch in our back yard on the patio the day after the wedding. As soon as the madness stops you gotta come by for a beer!

Keep us updated please, i really would like to know the results of the epoxy on the floors. I am building a new house with a detached garage and I want to do my floor.

looks like a good project

...also wondering what to do about flooring, and if I'll go the epoxy route.
My new place has a 31' x 34' attached garage.

Looking forward to the build ;) i do visit the south too y'know ;)

Hey, have you considered the 50s vintage steel kitchen cabinets? Saw a 50s set pulled out for flood damage with cool rounded open corners... they were gone an hour later when i went to "haul" them away ;) (hauled a load of trash anyway... really could have saved those)

Damnit man ;) make some more progress already :poosie:

I missed a nice set of cabinets this week - scrap metal idiot beat me by 2 minutes... And wasn't taking any bribes to not take em to federal... FFS! They were awesome too....

Looks great! I've always wanted to epoxy my garage floor... but moving all my crap out of my garage kind of kills my motivation :)

How much does each kit cost for that floor and what's recommended coverage?

i like the paint scheme you have planned.

looks very similar to mine

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v203/BlairTruck/DSC02318.jpg~original (http://smg.photobucket.com/user/BlairTruck/media/DSC02318.jpg.html)
mines oilers blue/red

The floor you see was done in that 2 part epoxy from homedepot. its garbage.
this is what it looked like when i applied it.

Surface prep is also a bit part of it too, if you did a poor job of doing it then chances of it peeling is much higher. Hopefully with a brand new garage for me it won't need too much prep.

Looks killer! Yours is pretty much exactly what I want to do with the garage when I get my new place.

With the epoxy, does all the dirt just wash off the floor?

Looking good so far! Keep us updated on how that epoxy floor holds up, I was considering it but heard too many horror stories even with the 100%-solids epoxies.

Looks good. I'm impressed your floor has stood up, I know a ton of people that have been disappointed by the epoxy kits for garage floors. I'm assuming part of your success is the prep.

Not sure if I missed it but, what product did you end up using for the floor and where did you get it?

Looks really good!

Anyone know if this epoxy stuff is okay with inslab heating?
