I have been tossing around the idea of straight piping my 335i, but before I make a decision I want to hear one in real life.

If anyone has a straight pipes N54 setup, please let know so I can meet you and listen to it.

Also, anyone know of a good place in town to get custom exhaust work done?

Waiting for someone as well, I've been thinking about doing mine too.

Jesus I'd do it for free just to hear it lol.

*disclaimer* I'm slow, and awful, and it will probably fall apart after a year.

Thanks bourge, I'll give him a ring.

On a side note, anyone know where to find 3.5" - 4" titanium exhaust tips in town?

Listening to online vids isn't the same as listening to it in person. I've heard some vids that make it sound real good on YouTube, then others are way over the top.

When i still had the car i just went back to stock, and did the golf tee mod and found that was good enough sounding for me

I have the exhaust flaps always open, but it is still just to reserved. I am also considering replacing he downpipes with 3" catless, but that is a lot more labour intensive.

I just got 3" dps. makes the exhaust note sound way better

That sounds like a bassy kazoo..straight piping rarely sounds good imo. The muffler helps tune your sound..and like earlier posters have said you will hate it if you ever go on a road trip. I'd say go for a performance cat back if you want to go down that road. Or have an electric cut out welded in.

Doesn't even sound badass in that first video...if you closed your eyes you'd think you were at Marlborough Mall's parking lot

I feel the same way for the most part, but DSG farts are pretty sweet.

Agree, DSG upshifts and especially downshifts sound better than any manual.

I don't see a problem with it... Haters gonna hate.

Because twinpower turbo ;)

Seriously though, all the local 335i's with straight pipes sounds like ass and makes it sound like a cheap POS vehicle

I haven't heard a straight piped 335i but for aftermarket exhaust options I like the sound of the Remus quad pipe exhaust on the 335i. They are pretty pricey though. I would post a link to some video's but work won't let me access youtube. Google "Remus 335i" and see what you think.

Mine is pretty loud with catless downpipes and BMW performance cat back...
Any louder would be insane I think.

Yeah, exactly. Why would you spend 30-50 K on a car to make it sound like a rusted out muffler honda accord? Especially lwith a high end beemer which is specifically designed for comfort , precise design and performance. Seems to me like slapping BMW engineers in the face to straight pipe it.

You should've just bought a muscle car

Haha chill out everyone. I'm simply tossing the idea around. YouTube sound clips never sound the same as live, in person sounds so I wanted to see if someone had one locally I could hear first hand. If money wasn't an issue, I'd definitely have the Remus quad carbon exhaust installed.

THIS..a dohc inline 6 is never going to give you the sound your likely going for..it's not going to transform into a mustang 5.0 exhaust note

It's not that I can't afford it, I just can't justify spending $1500~ for no performance gains.

meh do what you want man. For me Id go to Minute Muffler and throw on a couple of Magnaflow Mufflers and see how you like it first before going the straight pipe route. It will sound good and wont break the bank. But that's just me.

For what it's worth, I'll give you my proper perspective on this idea:
When I hear about people wanting to fiddle with their exhaust on a tuner or a performance vehicle(BMW, Audi, etc), I feel as though the finished product should provide an elegant, yet powerful sound. I've heard what a straight piped 335i sounds like and the word I find best to describe it is obnoxious. If you want your car to be louder, I'd recommend to just get your resonator's removed first. It's cheap($50~+) and it does amp up the sound quite a bit, but it doesn't take it over the top. If you go the straight pipe route, you're just gonna end up with a mustang in a bmw body lol.

This entire thread was made so that I could hopefully hear one in real life. I wanted to see if it was even a feasible idea. I obviously don't want people to think its a cherry bomb Berretta driving towards them until they actually turn and see it's a 335i. The car just comes sounding so so so tame, and I want to unleash the beast.

As of now, I think 3" dp's is the best plan of attack. Power, and a lot more aggressive tone.

I had straight pipes on my 350Z and after a few months I got sick of it cause it was way too loud. On my Benz, I went the X-Pipe route and I can't emphasize enough how much I love the sound of it now. It's neither too loud nor too quiet. If I drive normal, you can't even tell that anything has been done. When I gun it, it roars. I am not sure if you can do the same on 335's, but if you can I would explore that option.

PLEASE DON'T

my buddy straight piped his 2007 335i. It was so loud, literally obnoxious loud that even he was embarrassed and tried to keep it under 2k rpm for the sake of his hearing

not to mention that cops are giving tickets for that stuff... it is just really stupid

funny thing is that i had a borla exhaust on my car ($350) and he envied it, especially after he dropped ($600+) doing a custom straight pipe on his

my 2 cents

Your best bet is to get a catless downpipe and do the golf tee mod. I have it done and it still sounds good when you push it. There's no annoying drone either.

Golf Tee mod did fuck all on my 135i, might do a bit more on a 335i but I think OP already has done it.

Ya it's been done already. It helped a little bit, but ya, not all that much.
