Seems like more and more people use VMR but this is bugging the hell out of me, I just bought a 2004 Mazda 3 for my gf and now I want to buy one for myself as well....for some reason it doesn't show it on VMR and when I got to Canadian Black Book value website, it gives a reasonable average asking price($6,000) but it's trade in value price is way off...$750 to $2,100?!?!

I have no idea what this car is worth other than what people are asking, my gf's is a Sport GS model with barely noticeable hail damage and 177,000...I paid 4,000 pretty good I think, but now I seen one on kijiji for 4,900 asking and it's the GT sedan model with 219,000...no idea what to offer him other than basing it on what he's asking (probably settle for 4,000 to 4,500?)...fyi these would both be auto trannies with everything in working order and no rust...

Yeah i think everyone uses VMR, or well atleast the people i know.

not to sure what year of MAZDA your talking about but i would personally go see the car and start at $3500-$3800 and go up:dunno:

EDIT: Mazda, not VW! Apologies!

Vw? Dunno if you wanna low ball him at
3500 I'd say 4200-4500 is reasonable for that car?

Ended up paying him $4600 for it....the engine still pulls strong and no leaks and visible burning of oil, tranny was smooth, new brakes, new windshield, a bit of rust but not as bad as I seen on some other Mazdas, engine bay runs quiet, starts easily, everything works, suspension feels same as my gf's ....interior was mint which leads me to believe his story of frequent travels to Lethbridge leading to higher mileage....I'm pretty happy and hoping it will last me another 40,000 km without repairs *knock on wood*

I use VMR but I know their estimates down a tad.

Canadian Black Book site is very accurate with trade in values. So if you picked it up privately for mid 4k dealer trade in of $750-$2k is about right.
