Damn, why can't I find shit like this?
I was on the nintendoage.com forums and a local guy was asking about this system he pulled from an electronics recycle bin. It was a Nintendo but had a strange controller and even weirder cartridge labelled with Q Sound.

I've been texting with him all week, hoping to go over there and see it tomorrow. If you Google Q Sound, it's a Calgary company and rumor is the system was developed at the University Of Calgary in the 80s. He mentioned his friend had talked to the ex CEO of Q Sound and the ex CEO had confirmed it was a one of a kind prototype which never got released and would be worth more to an audio collector than a game collector. The guy also said it had been used to master songs by Madonna and Michael Jackson.

He has received offers up to $20,000 for it. I'm guessing it could be worth 6 figures.

I forgot to mention, Q Sound did go on to do video games after this, I believe they did the sound upscaling in Street Fighter for SNES and probably 20 other titles. Or more. Any game with an emulation of surround or other high quality elements is probably running Q Sound hardware inside.

Madonna's Immaculate Collection was the first album to feature Q Sound. Pretty revolutionary at the time. I doubt it'll be worth much to audiophiles, Q Sound didn't really last too long, when better technologies came out shortly after.

It is, the system works with both a NES and Genesis.

Larry should have stuck with Jimmy Iovine and not bought the Stampeders

:werd:

That would have stopped the chain of events that subsequently lead to the prototype being tossed in the bin. The wrong people will havd it in their hands soon, and then we're all doomed....

Man, I remember Q-sound selling a lot of Nuance at International Stereo back in the day, what a scam! That demo was hilarious and sad at the same time, people were really amazed by it. This Larry guy should sue Mark Yusishen and George Baker, they made millions lying about his technology.

Edit - Just remembered George Baker is dead....I think?
