Damn thunderstorms...

Damn morons who get busy and forget to install surge protectors...

I need a replacement legacy PC...

Legacy - in the way that i need a true parallel port (bus connected, not usb converted)

Anyone still have something that hasnt made it to the recycling center yet?

Would a freebie motherboard/CPU combo work for you ?

How fast do you need it ?

Probably need a full unit, PSU doesn't even seem to stay powered up long enough to kick out all the POST errors; so thinking I need a complete unit...

How fast ? ...give me an idea of minimum requirements that you are looking for.

I have a ton of crap that I can give away for nothing.

I've tried a few of them in the past - they don't work the same as the old motherboard plugs - latency becomes a problem that then causes the CNC to do the jitterbug instead of carving properly...

Yea keep one on hand in storage somewhere in case this one kicks the bucket too.

Also, get a cheap UPS for protection from not only surges but also brownouts.

2nd - if the PC will be used in a dusty environment - consider switching out the fans inside (if possible) to passively cooled units (no fans).

Yeah; have a UPS for it... CNC is in the process of being enclosed, shopvac keeps the dust down fairly well in the meantime...

Andy.
I have a bunch of P4 setups with native parallel ports, so give me a day or so to go through them and find the best one and you can have it for free....and perhaps a 2nd matching backup system to throw into storage for the next failure.

You will simply need to throw in a HDD and load windows on it/them....but hopefully the price of free will make it worth your while ;)

No complete systems, but I do have a matching pair of boards/CPUs to give your CNC some real longevity in life.....

http://www.foxconnchannel.com/driverdownload/Motherboard/Intel/Socket478/661M04-GX/661MXPlus-EZ-En-V11.pdf

So, 2x matching motherboards (as above) with P4 3Ghz CPUs and each with 1GB of RAM (Foxconn 661MXPlus).

I am guessing that since you are using Linux, you are also able to do a motherboard swap, so for the grand price of FREE, hopefully this isn't a problem.

1 board to load up and 1 complete with CPU to keep as a spare.
Onboard Video, LAN etc and parallel port, of course.

Let me know and you can pick them up for free.

EDIT
I even have 4 matching WD .....

EDIT#2
Upon further investigation, drives are noisy and on the verge of death, but the motherboards work flawlessly and you are still welcome to them.
