Picked up this car to wrench on a few weeks ago and the parts have begun to arrive so I thought I would start a thread.
Car: 1989 Mustang LX Notch - no options
193,000kms, stock motor/trans + headers and intake, maybe a cam (can't solve rough idle).

Big Update - Shakedown Dyno Runs

31 Spline Moser axles
Complete 5-lug Conversion
4 corner Baer Track + brakes (13" 4pot (f), 12" 2pot (r)
BBK Coyote Swap Long Tube Headers
BBK Coyote Swap Catless H Pipe
Maximum Motorsports K-Member
Stiflers Transmission Crossmember
Maximum Motorsports Bilstein Coilover Front and Rear
Steeda Adjustable UCA's
MM LCA's
MM Bumpsteer Kit and Camber plates
Flaming River Power Steering Rack
FRPP Power Steering Relocation and Pump
TSW Carthage Wheels (17x9(f), 18x10(r))
Hankook Ventus V12 Evo Tires (245/40, 285/35)
Mishimoto Radiator and Electric Fan

Steeda Tri Ax Shifter Arm w/knob (unsure on knob)
Aeromotive Stealth 340lph fuel pump
AEM Wideband Gauge Kit
Aeromotive Fuel Pressure Regulator
Various lines, fittings, grommets hoses etc

Plans are for the motor and drive line to be pulled late August and all the suspension, rear end, K-member etc to be installed. Coyote and Trans will then go in in March/April and should be a runner by June. Teardown is being done by me with some install of the new gear and probably lots of assistance from outside shops (not sure which ones yet but I have a couple in mind).
Western Motorsports has handled most of the parts for me and they have been a huge help.

More pictures of how the car sits now and I will update as things progress.

Thanks guys. Nothing I have found so far. It was originally a burgundy car and had an okay repaint about 4 years ago. Car was originally from Victoria, and I bought it in Cranbrook. Found the original business card from the guy who sold the car in the glovebox.

Ya I had been sitting on this plan for a while but was waiting for the right car to pop up. Clean foxes are commanding a lot of money and usually the good ones have refreshed motors which I didn't need.

Also, definitely going to have Techmotion tune the car as he has a coyote in his 33 street rod shop car.

Awesome build thread, I will definately subscribe to this. Its awesome to see another mustang guy in here. You are a very lucky man to find a clean fox. Also you will love the T56magnum. I have one in my car and it takes abuse like a champ and my car makes more power than what its rated for. I have heard mixed reviews on the macloud rst. I have heard a couple people around town killing them. I have an RXT and its awesome. Very streetable. It gets a little grabby when it gets hot though. But i still love it

Small update: I don't want to have to do any major changes in the future with the motor so I am trying to find some room in the budget to opt for the Alluminator Coyote Crate motor. It's a small (relatively) price to pay to get forged connecting rods, Mahle pistons, oil cooling jets, better forged crank and ARP 2000 hardware. It will run the same 11:1 compression as the stock coyote but will be well overbuilt for my street N/A application. It will allow for low boost supercharging or Nitrous in the future should I go that route.

It also allows the tuner more flexibility for timing so may be able to squeeze some more N/A power while using the full 7500RPM capability of the control pack.

The Alluminator is a great choice. Made great power on Matthew's dyno in the '33 with less than stellar bolt-ons.
The foxes need alot of help to cope with power though, make sure you do some fixes to tame the pretzel!!
The car looks super clean, great find.

Yes agreed can't wait to get the motor in.

This car should be in the 400whp range and reinforcements planned are:
- WMS Subframe Connectors (There is a set already on the car but they are inadequate)
- Torque Box reinforcements

The Maximum Motorsports K-Member should help as it looks a bit stronger than stock as does the Stifflers Transmission member.

Plans are for this to be a street car, so no plans yet for slicks which reduce some stress on the car.

Always open to suggestions though from people who have gone down this road before.

Anyone have any thoughts on replacing the stock sway bars? They seem pretty strong from factory.

I've done the tubular subframe/control arm swap on a fox, and it came with fat sway bars to go with the new coil overs.

I couldn't believe the weight that was removed from the front by doing so.

Ya I figure 30-40 pounds have come out just with the K-member and upper and lower control arms.

I'm trying to balance the weight loss as it's a pretty front heavy car to start with. Relocated the battery to the right rear to start and I've heard the coyote motor mounts about an inch lower and 2 inches closer to the firewall which should help.

Buddy of mine just picked up a smashed 08.

We're doing the full 3v swap in his notch fox including floor panel and entire s197 dash. Should be fun. Has cams ready for the motor along with a STS twin turbo kit. Not 100% sure if he's building the block with beefier rods and pistons yet.

Quick question for guys who have run the Diablosport stuff. I am debating whether the Trinity will provide accurate enough readings for Air/Fuel, Fuel and Oil Pressure?

I either am going to fab up a bracket for single DIN headunit + Trinity or just go the traditional route and get the Autometer gauges and mount them using pre-fab gauge clusters.

Any comments?

Into the final stages of prep for the engine install. Needed to install the weld-in panels that cover all the ugly swiss cheese holes from factory.

Factory Surface cleaned, sandblasted and primed
http://i.imgur.com/xu7wMmP.jpg
http://i.imgur.com/jSd3Syp.jpg

Weld in panels cleaned, primed and sprayed with rustproofing spray - our concern was that these panels are welded on top of factory metal and didn't want rust to be a problem
http://i.imgur.com/2YbTdTv.jpg

Also hit the factory panel with rustproofing
http://i.imgur.com/lW5ifbo.jpg

Panels welded in and now starting to grind smooth - next step is to prime entire engine bay and paint - going with a low gloss black.
http://i.imgur.com/9scoknW.jpg

Will have the engine bay painted tonight and then it is time for more parts. Next stage is to get the rear brakes finished (can't get the caliper situated - contacted Baer as we think they sent us an incorrect bracket.

Plan is to have the motor, trans, fuel system, rad and accessories in by May 30. I have shop time booked for May 14 so hoping we can make the deadline.

Should also mention that we are removing that rats nest of stuff as the only thing that will be staying is the wiper motor and remaining bits of the "car" harness including headlights etc. Everything else is replaced by the Ford Racing harness that comes with the Alluminator. Going with manual brakes also as rigging in a Hydroboost is not worth the effort.

Still prepping for motor. Missed my window for shop time in May plus my wife is going buck wild on our nursery so it looks like middle of this month I'll be able to get it into the shop. Kept busy with interior and little stuff like battery tray in the trunk.

It only took 18 months but here is the shakedown dyno run. Put down 362whp and 326lb/ft on a heartbreaker Mustang Dyno. For reference, a stock 2012 Mustang GT put down 325 on the same dyno last week.

Have you driven it at all? How does it feel?

^Thanks never. I drove it between the dyno shop and where it's being worked on - 5kms.

It pulls like a banshee and sounds great. Still need some heavy suspension tuning including dropping the coils, installing a splined front sway bar and modifying both the front and rear fenders.

Hopefully that all gets done this week so it's driveable next week for an alignment.

Awesome...what RPM did it make power to (just curious on powerband for these motors)?

Peak power was at 6850RPM and then it started to drop off. Redline was set at 7200RPM
Techmotion said it would keep making power if I switched out the stock 80mm intake runner to a 100mm. I wanted to keep the stock size just for getting it running and setting a baseline. I might look at the higher volume intake next summer.

The biggest change with the custom tune was mid-range torque. We made 20 foot pounds more at 3200RPM over our baseline.

I'll scan the dyno graphs when I get a second and post them.

Love the sound of a big block but for handling, dumping that much iron over the front wheels would be bad. The coyote motor is actually 1.5" back towards the firewall compared to the factory motor and the front wheels are moved forward 3/4" thanks to the Max Motorsports K-member and a-arms. This has led to the problems below with the fender clearance.

End game for this car is a autoX/road track car. Currently fighting with clearance on the front fenders. Tried to cut away the plastic inner fender to make room but still making contact.

http://i.imgur.com/fBVKJ4w.jpg

Still working through some gremlins - replaced the speed sensor on the trans because it was leaking, only to find the trans tail seal on the T56 Mag is also leaking. Currently waiting on warranty seal to arrive from Tremec.

E-brake is not engaging properly and rubbing at low speeds so the assembly has to be re-installed (Baer tech line says I did it wrong - we'll see).

Finally, will be lowering the rear 1.5 inch now that the fenders have been rolled and slightly pulled. In the pics above it's sitting too high for my liking.
