Pretty excited about this, but kinda curious how much they're going to have to censor it for radio. In a nuthshell:

CALGARY (August 12, 2013) – Calgary commuters will finally be able to laugh their asses off to and from work. Launching Thursday, Sept. 12 at 6am, Bell Media Radio Calgary station 1060AM will become home to Funny 1060AM. The hilarious new format promises 24/7 stand-up comedy from some of the biggest comedians in the world, including Jerry Seinfeld, Ellen DeGeneres, George Carlin, Chris Rock, Louis C.K., Sarah Silverman, and Dennis Miller.

Wow, this is fantastic! I too am curious what the censorship will and will not allow. Oh well, for us without XM it's a great alternative and starting point.

AM106 was the shit! I used to make tapes of the Top 6 at 6 and Top 10 at 10 that I could listen to in my Sony Sport Walkman, while strolling down the street in my Converse Chucks and Air Jordan track suit. Sometimes I'd ditch class and head to The Wizards Castle at Northland where I'd meet buddies to play Pole Position II, Xenophobe, and Altered Beast. Then we'd whip a bunch of stink bombs we bought at SanFrancisco around the food court and bail back to school. Then it's on the 76 back to home, but I'd stop early at the Red Rooster and see who was gonna fight. Sometimes I'd go to the Edgemont Club for a duece and wander around there. Then I'd walk home, say we never got any homework, eat something, grab a Pepsi and only push down the small tab so I could savor the flavor longer, and then fire up the Crapple to play some Ultima V until it was too late to attempt the homework I said I didn't have. Ya, AM106 was the shit.....except for that fucking Lollipop song. I hated that song. Stop reading here. Fuck off.

Terrible format for an AM radio station, after you have heard the same comedy routine a couple of times, you're not going to want to hear it again. There are just not that many quality comedians compared to music, sports, talk radio, etc in general. How many times are you going to listen to Lewis Black do the same routine? A couple of times I would think, maybe. How many times have you heard "Yesterday" by The Beatles for example. Pick a classic rock/pop song if that is not working for you.

As mentioned, they cannot get around the censorship laws at all, unless it is comedy from pre 1970 it is going to be full of beeps. Also, is an advertiser of a fine beverage going to want their product following this:

Thought not.

I place 1060 AM using a comedy format on an immediate death watch.
