View Full Version : Adding auxilliary input to car stereo?

I really don't care to replace the head unit in my car, but it doesn't have a 3.5mm auxilliary input. Is there an easy way to add a port that is maybe hardwired into a certain radio frequency, so that I can just plug my ipod in and have good ol' stereo sound without having to overhaul the factory system?

I currently have the sirius car kit wired in, which if I recall (it's been years since I installed it) is basically a cable that plugs in-line between the antenna cable and car deck, so that X frequency FM is always the sirius input, and never lose reception or anything like that. Is there an option like this to just add a simple 3.5mm cable? Or some sort of bluetooth system that I can pair the ipod to?

Ah, I was looking for one I hardwire into the actual system. I've used probably four or five of those fm transmitter things, and not only do they clutter up the dash/console area, but they've either broken completely or just not worked at all, sometimes losing reception, sometimes getting noise from other channels. Getting the hard line into the antenna like the Sirius gave me sound quality as good as CD's and never any blip in the recession or anything at all (not sure if it maybe blocked the frequency you programmed it to?)

car came with it, so i duuno what the product is. but i have a hardwired ipod hookup (that doesnt charge the ipod) in the lexus with a factory deck. there is a little toggle switch, i flip it, my radio goes fuzzy. flip to a certain station and i have crystal clear ipod coming through.

That's exactly what I'm looking for...can you tell if it's a kit, or do you think the previous owner just rigged it up on his own? I'm sure that's doable just don't know how.

Damn, they even have a bluetooth version - exactly what I'm looking for even if it is kinda pricey

Just a followup question- does blutetooth commonly have interference issues from using multiple devices? Ie. If I bought this kit and my car had hands free already (it doesn't, but hypothetically) - would I realistically have issues trying to connect an ipod by blutetooth to the isimple thing and still have my cell connect to the vehicles native blutetooth?

Which model HU do you have? Usually most aftermarket have some sort of input... Might be red/white, in which case you would just need an adapter cable

It's an '04 accord w/ 6 disc changer built in. I haven't looked behind it in a long time but I don't remember seeing any aux inputs back there. Even if I did, there's no aux source button on the front unless it turns up only after plugging in aux, and using the source button

They wire into the 6cd-changer port. Was looking into this for my 02 accord but couldn't justify the price and got rid of the car soon after anyways.
