Maranellos does powder coating. I think scream works does as well.

Edit: I believe that powder coating is more durable but at the same time it requires a heat process which if done incorrect can weaken your rims.

Pretty much. I read somewhere that it's a bad idea to do this with forged rims especially.

I've had lots done at Top Gun. Always did a great job. Sandblasting done in-house. They made some steel dually rims off a 76 1 ton look like new and it was only like $50/rim, but that was a few years ago. I got my diff covers done last week, they look amazing! I recommend them. They can do aluminum too, but iirc they don't do the soda blasting in-house.

Just sent my rims to calgary powdercoats, price is a little more than top guns at $80/wheel for 19 and under iirc. 2weeks turn around. And if you have multipiece rims in the future and you have separated them, it'll still be the same as if it werent a multipiece

And to. Post above, it is bad for forged wheels but if its aluminum, its quick durable

Is this a professional service where they actually strip it down and powder coat it properly? …Or is a guy with a can of spray paint and masking tape going to show up at my door?

He does all our wheel repairs and powder coating for us at the dealer, never had any problems, has all the professional equipment in his van/trailer, he can even mount and dismount your tires if needed.

After being frustrated with the prices most shops around town quote (and using calgary powder coating once, wasn't impressed), I was pleased to find these guys a couple years ago. I used them several times. They did my acura, vw, z06, and ferrari wheels and I will go back again! IIRC their price was about half from the other guys.

They do not sandblast in house and none of my wheels needed to be sandblasted as they were in new-good condition. They do prime them though and I never had any issues with chipping. Also never experienced any vibrations or breakdowns like some powder coating horror stories mention.

Also painting wheels is not as durable and will cost just as much, if not more.

I've used Andre at Alloy Wheel Repair a couple of times before but for repairing my rims. He charged $150 per rim for the repair. Not sure how much he charges for powder coat though. Best thing with him is that he will come to your house and do it. Again, not sure if we can do powder coating the same way.

I got mine done (20x9 Truck) at calgary powder coating. Happy with how they turned out and dont see any imperfections yet (2 months/3 long road trips/daily driving).

$80 per

Calgary Powder Coating did my wheels for $75/rim and my cage for $100 total, both came out mint. This was 2 years ago and the finish is holding up great. Those prices also include sandblasting off the old finish.

Like I said this was a few years ago, prolly cost more now. Plus these were basic cheap ugly steel dually rims, blast, prep, bake. I'm assuming you brought them something a little more high end, either that or you look like more of a schmuck than I do lol

I've gone to Calgary Powder Coatings a few times. They have really good customer service there. They do the sandblasting which is included with the cost of powdercoating. $75/rim for 15s.

First of all we are right next door to Calgary Powder Coating and most of those guys you mention in the thread drop their wheels off here to get them coated.

2nd because they are next door we are constantly sending stuff over for powder coating. I can say that it really isn't much better than paint. We use it because it is convenient, but for steel wheels etc it doesn't hold up much better than paint.

The plasti-dip won't take too kindly to any chemicals or oils, or life on a work bench in general. It's about as durable as a blue glove haha

Ended up going to Calgary Powder Coaters (close to Shaw GMC area), Top Gun was just way too expensive. As an example, CPC had a flat rate of 80$ per rim for strip and powder coat and they have a fairly wide pallet of standard colours you can pick from. Top Gun quoted me 125$ for either black or white… 187.50$ for anything else… plus they wanted me to go out and get them stripped at another place first which is additional cost. My total cost at CPC including tax was 348$ (must be some fees in there). If I had gone to Top Gun it would have been over 1K.

I did my research on CPC, and the only negative things I read was that they tend to push smaller orders out in favour of bigger more important ones. Also that they have a minimum charge of 200$, so if you are doing either 1 or 2 rims you are paying more. Everything I read for quality was pretty good, they also conduct a quality inspection on the rim prior to handing it over to the customer.

My experience was that they had enough shades of white in their standard pallet that I had to take the samples and compare it to my car outside. I also had my order pushed my order out about 1 week, so I had to wait 3 weeks for it to be complete. The only thing I saw was there was a long scratch in the middle of the drum from either the coating process or storage rack… personally I don’t care because once the tire goes on you will never see it anyway, but if you are OCD it might bother you. The face and inside of the rim was absolutely flawless and of very good quality, looks like it came from the factory like this.

Overall I would recommend them, they were quite professional overall and the quality of the work is pretty high. As long as you are aware of the 200$ minimum charge (they do have a giant sign behind the desk) and the possibility it might be delayed a week or two it is the more cost effective way to go.

Thanks, will probably have my summer wheels done in a darker color next spring through them then.
